Do people think like me that the last series of Star Trek on sky one was the best ever.

Pauly

I never got to watch all of them but I did enjoy what I saw.

Shouldn't this be in tv/movie chat though?

royjames

it will probably be moved to there.
But I thought it was great archer is excellent

I voted no. However, I did think it was pretty damn good. Overall, it's been a good season, and light years ahead of the last two. And I thought Archer kicked serious ass in the last few episodes.

I loved how he dealt with that Xindi Reptilian.

As with Nick I vited NO.

However I too point out ST:Enterprise is a MOVIE-quality show that has improved by [quantum?] leaps and bounds as it has gone along. This show isn't over yet and the final vote can change, but I think they're producing a good series and i'm enjoying watching it.

I voted yes. Looking at only the first three seasons of each series.

Enterprise has made a huge impact, if we ignore the low budget episodes in season 2, although even some of them had great story lines.

To compare Enterprise to the other complete shows is unfair...

Enterprise aside i would say

TNG had the best cast
Voyager had the best overall plot and mini plots
DS9 Felt good
TOS... hmmmm... Before my time, so i just can't get it.

Prize goes to... Voyager

Actually, I thought we were just talking about the current season of Enterprise, not the entire show.

If we're talking about the entire 3 seasons, then I agree, it's too early to say with any certainty.

Besides, everyone likes different aspects of the different shows. Many people hate Voyager (I'm not one of them). Some people only like TOS, and hate all the modern Treks (they're slightly disturbed, IMO :) ).

Enterprise has really taken off this year though. It's been very good, though some people will of course disagree.

As for the "movie quality", I'd suggest they all been movie quality since DS9's later seasons. That's the beauty of CGI.

DS9, from season 4 onwards was tops, when the brought the Dominion war into the picture and started to explore the origin of Odo etc.

Like I said in the other Trek thread, only thing that spoiled DSS9 really was the annoyingness of the Ferengi barkeep Quark and especially his chav brother.

capthunter
10-06-2004, 09:44
Oh Quark and Rom were OK. The only thing that really annoyed me about Quark, is that by the last episode, he was still pretty much the same character as he started out. All the others, by comparison, had grown and changed. Quark was just ... Quark.

I watch it but it's not best... ST show that is.

Lickable

I think the 'movie quality' comment was reffering to the grain on overall series.

I think its good that Quark doesnt change. Feregi are slighty primal in thier ways and no matter what happens cant avoid a good deal or a theft!

On a completly different note...

I just read in a Star trek format that maybe the new series is just been pushed so that the series can go into syndication...

If this is the case it could be bad!!! I really hope this season does well, even on the 'Friday death slot' in the US, and then they make a movie to follow! It would be great to see a massive Temperal cold war movie with several cross overs into TOS, TNG, Voyager and DS9. ... I can only hope ...

Actually, he was indeed referring to the show's production values. Adrian and I have had this discussion before. ;)

OK.....

I liked Quark.

And as my wife just pointed out the treatment meted out to the Xindi Reptillian was almost as undignified as the way the Ferengi in DS9 treated the Wayoun who they accidentally killed when on a rescue mission. A remote controlled dead Wayoun being traded for live Ferengi prisoners...gross....

Anyway....here's an experiment.

Watch an episode of Cheers and a Quark centered DS9 after each other.

Obviously, Morn is based on Norm....but.....has anyone else noticed how Quark acts and even vaguely looks like Sam Malone?

Back to the thread.....

This last Enterprise series has been excellent. I'm quite keen to see what happens psychologically to people on the crew. The treatment meted out to Hoshi was prett bad, and I hope the Creators write her character development to show the results.

And Archer has indeed kicked ass - in terms of Starfleet Officers behaving badly 'for the cause' he ranks up there now with Sisko for the latter's activity in some parts of the Dominion War. Again, will be interested to see how he comes to terms with his actions now the immediate threat to Earth is out of the way.

As I mentioned elsewhere it fits my theory that the first two series of each modern Trek outing have been pretty mixed, but then start improving in Series 3 onwards....

Quark=Sam Malone. That's hilarious.

As for Archer taking morally dubious actions, I'd love to see them follow up on the folks he stole a warp core from. It would be nice to see some consequences, other than Archer feeling just bad about it.

And just as a after thought do people think like me that the borg were the most fearsome enemy.

RPG
10-06-2004, 21:54
I think that the Borg were only as powerful as the writers decided they should be for the story

Look at the evidence,

First Contact: The whole of starfleet only just destroyed a single cube..

Voyager: one measely intrepid class managed to time and time again thwart several cubes at a time

capthunter
10-06-2004, 22:18
I'm with you RPG. At least I was until you called the Intrepid class "measly". That ship rocks.

Of course, I may be biased. ;)

Though, Voyager had Janeway, so the Borg didn't have a chance. ;)

By the way, is anyone else here interested in meeting other Trek fans in Sheffield? Or possibly interested in a Star Trek RPG?

RPG
10-06-2004, 22:30
It does indeed rock as a ship, but its no U.S.S. Prometheus (thats my fave of all the ships)

(ps. my name RPG has nowt to do with role playing games ;))

capthunter
10-06-2004, 22:40
The Prometheus would be OK if it didn't have that silly MVAM mode.

I didn't assume your username was necessarily a reference to roleplaying, though I did wonder.

The question is still there should anyone be interested though. I know Adrian is trying to get a game going. ;)

10-06-2004, 22:44
Oh, and you're right by the way. The Borg were exactly as powerful as the script required them to be. Sometimes, I think people lose track of that simple little fact. Though it would be nice to see them written consistently.

Actually, they were quite well done when they showed up on Enterprise.

Everyone talks about that ENT episode, but i must have missed it! Which ep was it?

Rich

It was on Sky One this past Monday night at 8 PM.

I recorded it on my WinTV capture card, shame I deleted it last night or I could've burned it to a DVD and let you borrow it or summat.

I think... Janeway had more time than any other to understand the borg, so she knew of the weak points, thats how she was able to blow up more than enterprise. I know Picard was part of the collective for a while but so have most of the voyager crew!

Can anyone remember the name of the episode in voyager where they find the borg ship with all the damaged borg ready to be destroyed. That freaked me out that episode!

And Capt Hunter... My girlfriend and I would like to meet up with some Star Trek peeps sometime, maybe over a Dvd and some food, I have never played any RPG though.

That's cos they were on the Borg's home ground, ie the Delta quadrant.

When I started watching the first season of enterprise the sickeningly PC story lines put me right off. I wanted to get Archer, kick him in the head and tell him to live in the real world.

More recently though it's got much gritier and Archer has made realistic choices rather than PC ones, so it's gone from bad to very good.

JoeP
11-06-2004, 17:26
Yup,

Enterprise had a bit of a rough start, though Broken Bow was a good start.

The Temporal Cold War theme was quite good, and it has proceeded nicely with a few ups and downs. Someone mentioned the 're-use' of themes and plots form other ST series - TNG did this terribly as well in the first couple of series.

PCness is something that has bothered Trek on occasion - TNG sometimes made me want to hurl.

Well this is turning into quite a fun conversation.

As for Janeway, you either love her or hate her. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

Me? I love her. But then maybe I'm just taken in by that cute little smile she has. ;)

Anyway, I agree about Enterprise, it's had a very slow start. Season two was pretty dull. Season 3 has really hit it's mark though.

Well, anyone who wants to meet and and chat should contact steel_city_ady and say hi. If you haven't already. He's looking to get local fans together for laughs.

The comment that was frequently heard around The Towers was that 'Janeway's bun was too tight....'

She reminds me of Katherine Hepburn.

I particularly liked her showing 'vest appeal' in the episode with the gigantic virussy things (screw the biology....) and her getting in to near carpet chewing mode in 'Equinox' and 'Year of Hell'.

capthunter
11-06-2004, 19:52
Oh I love the giant virussy thing one (Macrocosm). And she was great in Year of Hell.

Wish they'd hurry up and get the rest of Voyager out on DVD. Six months is a long time to wait. :)

Hi all - my first post on here so be nice :D

I think this last series that just finished on Sky was outstanding. Wasn't a bad episode all season and I thought the on-going Xindi storyline was very strong and progressed well from one episdode to the next.

Loved the scenes with T'Pol getting her top off too - Jolene Blalock is a very sexy woman! Especially liked the growing relationship between her and Trip, with the highlight being the Trip-clone falling in love with her and Trip himself starting to look at how he feels about her.

Another favourite was the episode based several years in the future where Archer couldn't remember anything after becoming "infected" by the spacial anomalies (spelling?) and T'Pol looking after him - a very clever episode I thought.

Twilight was good...I'd forgotten that one!

It was reminiscent of one of the best DS9 episodes, 'The Visitor'.

A good story - liked it enormously!

The Visitor is one of my all time faves. I must have watched it 50 times. Probably more. That and Darmok, which is my all time favourite. Heck, I used to be able to recite the dialogue from that one, I'd seen it do many times. ;)

I reckon First Contact is my favourite Trek film.

The casting of Cochrane was great, though the actor concerned reminds me terribly of Ed O'Neil, who played Al Bundy in 'Married with Children'.

To this day, whenever I see First Contact, I have to stifle the evil part of my brain that wants to say that the warp drive was invented by 'Mr Shoe'......:-)

But FC is a great movie - the great baddie line 'Watch your future end' is almost as good as 'Target Voyager. Put Janeway out of her misery' from 'Year of Hell'.

capthunter
14-06-2004, 17:44
Oh yeah, that is a good line. :D

Ed Bundy as Cochrane. Y'know, there's a parody in there somewhere. Maybe Peggy as Lily. Actually, Peggy probably would have kicked the Borg Queen's ass. ;)

You up for a meet up with other Sheffield fans, Joe?
