I having lockups with my computer, and i can't figure out whats causing them.

whenever i run a cpu intensive application eg: tmpgenc dvd authour my computer just freezes, I cant move the mouse, use the keyboard, or put caps lock on/off.
Its also happening when trying to burn dvd/cd discs, and when trying to defrag the hdd 1 or 2

I first got these problems a last year, and discovered that i had faulty memory, which was promptly replaced. Now the problem has returned, and its not the ram thats at fault.

I have replaced the psu, even added a further 512mb of ram, and ruled out an overheating issue. The harrdrives have all been professionally tested, as has the ram in my system.

my specs are as follows...

KOB KT400 FDSX motherboard
VIA KT400 Chipset
AMD 2800+
1.5 GB ddr 3200 400hz ram
400W psu
120 GB MAXTOR ATA
80 GB hitatchi deskstar ATA
Nec nd3500 dvd+-rw
Windows XP PRO w/SP2

There are no virii on my system, and even after formatting both hdds and reinstalling windows, the problem has persisted.

Any help?

it could be a cpu or mobo problem, I don't suppose you have access to a spare of either of them have you ?
