I've spent the last hour looking on the net for a map showing the route of the Sheffield Round Walk. I know it begins at Encliffe Park, which isn't a problem to find as I live on Rustlings Road.

Does anyone know a link where I can find a map please.

Fraid not. Sheffield museums (or Libraries?) used to produce a super little booklet on it, obtainable from Weston Park Museum (currently closed?)
I suspect the "cuts" which ushered in the era of Thatcherism may have seen publication cease but it would be worth phoning the Library service just to check

Sorry dylan, I can't find one either.

If this helps (you can follow it on an A-Z)......

Endcliffe park follow Porter Brook all way up to Fulwood Lane.

Turn left and (after about half mile) cross road at Roundhouse, Ringinglow and just onto Houndkirk Road.

Descend down Limb Brook (on left) into Whirlow Park, and exit at bottom.

Cross Ecclesall Road South and enter Ecclesall Wood walking down hill through wood to cross Abbeydale Road.

Go right then turn left onto Twentywell Lane entering Ladies Spring Wood on left.

Follow footpath by Beauchief golf course then turn right at Beauchief Abbey.

Follow this path to Bocking Lane and cross road.

Walk uphill to footpath on your left. Take this path which drops between some houses into Chancet Wood.

Leave wood at Meadowhead and cross road into Graves Park then follow this footpath uphill to Graves Park lakes.

END OF WALK (I'v missed out the horrible bit at the end)

Enjoy:thumbsup:

I looked online and couldn't find one either. You can buy it from Waterstones in town though.

Roughly you go out through Endcliffe Park, Porter Brook up to Ringinglow. Then down limb valley, Whirlow brook park. Then through another park (can't recall what it's called), Ecclesall woods, Graves Park, Meersbrook park then throgh Nether Edge via Chelsea park and then back to Hunters bar. Something like that anyway.

It's about 16 miles. If you buy the route it is divided into 4 bits and it tells you the buses you need if you fancy doing it in parts.

You could do the walk I described above in the opposite direction dylan.

Its about 12 miles, but if you get the bus to Graves Park and walk back from there you'll be saving the best bit till last, AND end up near home.

All the paths are marked on the A-Zs.

Aye aye... something else we can blame Thatcher for. Nearly got away without it being mentioned today.

'Cos it had nothing to do with the ruling Sheffield Council of the time who totally ignored budgets, likely income and common sense.

Pupils at Newfield do the Round Walk in Y7 for some kind of bonding experience...we just ended up laughing at the chavs who came in white cropped trousers....ho ho ho, lots of mud that day, oh yes!

I've got the cards which breaks the walk up into manageable chunks. PM me and I'll see about either scanning them in or photocopying them.

The best way of doing it is to follow the 'acorn' signs, they're very good at keeping you on track.

I got the guide from the Tourist Information on Surrey Street.

I have a copy of the round walk from the book "Sheffield - emerging city" published in 1969. I don't know if the route is the same as more recent versions.

I have scanned it, and you should find it at http://www.megapico.co.uk/round_walk0004.jpg About 175kB download.

The rest of the book is interesting too - fantastic pictures of Park Hill and other now run down buildings, the Tinsley marshelling yard, hole in the road etc. Plans for where the parkway will go, and what the Hallamshire hospital might look like when it is built are also included.

The whole thing is written with real excitement about all these developments and the future of Sheffield. I wonder if it has been re-publised?

You might want to try one of these:

My hubby and all his mates did the complete walk on Sunday....they were very proud of themselves !!

The way round they did meant the hardest section was Abbeydale to Meadowhead because it was uphill.

It took them almost 7 hours at a leisurely pace.

With the warmer months on the way more people maybe keen to do sections (it is split into 4 sections) or the complete walk!!

He really enjoyed it !!
