Help!

My Spanish friends are coming over to visit. They will be staying with me for 5 full days, and I want to show them the very best bits of Sheffield and the surrounding area.

We haven't got a car, so any travelling will have to be done using the public transport. My friends love small towns and countryside areas, any suggestions???

Thanks!!!

peak district?

peak day tickets are cheap enough

get the hathersage bus (is it the 272 Castleton bus? check with the traveline 01709 515151 to confirm)
get off at fox house or Hathersage the scenery is beautiful out there, and if they are physically able to have a wander (I don't know their ages or collective stamina levels) then they could have a walk to padley

talke a piccanic basket, and enjoy the weather and stunning scenery; bliss!

(you could even use the bus and do a round tour, to castleton etc, and enjoy the views that way)

there's also buses to Bakewell which is quite picturesque

You can take them on the 51 bus to the terminus at Lodge Moor; walk up to Redmires resevoir and then up to Stanage Pole and along the edge to Burbage.
Maybe stop there for a sandwich and a cup of tea before continuuing along burbage till you get to Fox House where you can have a refreshing pint of beer or three while you wait for the bus back into the City Centre.

I would show them the Winter Gardens and Millennium Galleries too - and I trip to the theatre if funds allow?

Another thought; get a 61 bus up to High Bradfield.Beautiful views. You could eat at the Old Horns and the Church is well worth a look too and is steeped in history.
If you walk down to Low Bradfield there's the village green, cricket pitch, bowling green etc - and often an ice-cream van too...

My favourite place in Sheffield is the Bolehills park at the back of Crookes. From the top of one hill you've got a view of about five other hills and across the Rivelin valley. I find it amazing that there's such a great view as that well within the city boundaries. The Rivelin valley trail itself is also well worth a look.

You can take them on the 51 bus to the terminus at Lodge Moor

Or get off the 51 at the Hallamshire Golf Course (ask), walk back a few yards and there's a hole in the wall, go thru it, and you can walk along the back of the golf course along an 'edge' and see the views along Rivelin Valley, then end up at the Three Merry Lads for something to eat, then walk (not too far) back to the terminus (51 again) and get the bus back! Lovely views.

Or, get the tram to Manor Top, and enjoy the wonderful view of passing cars, chavs, and the occasional tramp asking for 30p for his 'bus fair'

:hihi:
