I think the UGC one has gotta be the cheapest. Not heard of any other Cinema's doing it but I'm sure they might. Warner Bro's do a Gold Pass that lasts a year but that's all I know of.

UGC is my fave cinema in Sheffield. The screens are bigger and the seats are better than Meadowhall.

Went to see Kill Bill 2 last weekend with my boyfriend and we were put in screen 19. It was only small but they had these huge adjustable seats and little tables in between them! I think screen 20 is the same.

I think 19 and 20 are the former Premier screens, going back to the days when it was a Virgin cinema. You used to pay about £10 per ticket to watch a film in the premier screen, which as well as those nice adjustable seats and tables you got complimentary nibbles, access to a private bar and use of the cloakroom. UGC did away with that and use those screens as normal ones.

UGC will soon be the only cinema in Sheff worth bothering with apart from the one in Meadowhall... They're closing the Odeon down apparently when they re-do that whole area on Arundel Gate.

Shame though, it was a good cinema while it lasted, shame it went a bit expensive, even at student discount rates.

*sigh*

If only it was like back in the 80s, when there was 4 decent cinemas in Town alone, namely the Gaumont, the original Odeon on Blundell St (Where Kingdom is now) and the ABC on Angel St, and the Anvil on the corner near Debenhams as you come down from Division St,

remember you have to pay for a minimum 12 months when you get the UGC pass... i was going to get one over the summer till i found that out, i don't get chance to go any other time.

as far as other places are concerned, I reckon UGC is the best, cause the screens are huge. but the food is horrible :?

I own the UGC card and I must say that it's well worth it especially when you consider that when you go there at peak times it will cost you a fiver normally. Just twice a month to break even which ain't so bad when there are loads of good films on. Anyway, the cinema is brilliant as there is ample leg room and the screens aren't the size of portable tv's unlike the other cinema's in the area.

yup i'd agree with that - great cinema - crap food! but there again cinemas aren't exactly renowned for their culinary delights!

To be honnest, the best cinema itself is UGC, but the best place is the Odeon, It's pity there aren't the facilities of the UGC at the Odeon.
Pity they built all this Centertainement in Atterlciffe, it would be quicker and cheaper to get to if UGC was in town.
What are the plans concerning the roxy and Odeon then ? Are we going to have another pointless building built, and let's see... probably in glass and steel...

Or worse, more Yuppie flats! Clearly they aren't content with West One and the ones at the West St tram stop.

Yep ... showroom here too !

Went to see an amazing film there the other day ... 'twilight samurai' ... and the seats are comfortable and bigger than the ones at UGC (apart from the screen 19 & 20 ones ... which are ace).

I still like the odeon ... 4 of us went to see harry potter there yesterday, and it only cost us £12. Plus its nice if you don't want to have to drive everytime!

I think that's why people prefer the likes of UGC though, cos it's within easy reach for drivers, and there's plenty of FREE parking, whereas around the Odeon there's almost NO parking and the little bit of on-street parking there is is full of parking meters and car parks that charge like £4 for 2 hours parking, and you're never out of a cinema in under 2 hours by the time you've watched all the adverts, trailers and the film itself, as well as queued for tickets and popcorn/sweets etc.

I love the showroom-and the bar is quite nice too!

I do like the odeon, yes it mings but its cheap and the joke of the curtains and lights comming on after the trailers gets shown never gets old.

I dont really like the the UGC (though I go) mostly because I shudder at the thought of centertainment and meadowhall.

What about the union cinema? Thats only £1.50!

I'm sorry Odeon lovers.

Are ye BLIND?! I went to the Odeon (for the very last time thank you very much) to see School of Rock a couple of months ago, and there were kids throwing things and laughing, popcorn all over the floor/seats, my feet actually stuck to the floor and peeled off with great difficulty as I walked around, bits of carpet were sellotaped together, screen was about twice the size of my own TV!

I always go to UGC now...the screens are great, seats are great, prices are much cheaper than the Odeon (for a student like meself anyway), and better value even if they are more expensive for the rest of you.

My only fault would have to be the unbelievable state of the floor around the food/drink counter when I went to see HP&TPoA - it was like someone had had a big hose filled with Coca-cola and decided it would be fun to spray everyone with it :S.

UGC no longer does student discounts over the counter, at least that's what they told me the time before last that I went... Luckily I booked my tickets for POA online on the UGC web site, so I got my student discount (which I am perfectly entitled to before anyone starts).

Erm, I always get a discount for being a 6th former, maybe it's only up to 18? As long as I show my bus pass they're fine about it. I've even used it in the UGC in Nottingham.

UGC is tops for me - I'm well over 6ft tall and remember watching films in Odeon, Gaumont etc with my knees round my ears.

Really good to be comfy - plus loads of free parking or handy for supertram - just remember to take your own food & drink.
