But I wont knock ya because it's each to their own at the end of the day.....Remember though it aint on every day no more so you do get breaks in between matches.......and theres not much longer to go so.....just bite your tongue and get on with it! COME ON ENGLAND! Sultana 28-06-2006, 13:41 You are not alone, I would not mind if they just played & got on with it - but its rammed down our throats at every verse end! *Ryan* 28-06-2006, 13:50 Bless your cotton socks! Only 2 weeks to go, dont worry! :) canadablade 28-06-2006, 13:54 Am I the only person on the Forum that is utterly fed up of hearing about the World Cup? No but fed up of the Italians, Portuguese and Terry Henry diving about like they have been shot anytime someone comes within 2 feet of 'em. Always thought of Henry as a decent player, lost all respect for him yesterday. Regards CB UTB and Come on England willman 28-06-2006, 13:57 its even better now i can watch womens tennis in between footie. what a life eh!! muddycoffee 28-06-2006, 14:10 Am I the only person on the Forum that is utterly fed up of hearing about the World Cup? Certainly not, there are hundreds of people who are sick to the back teeth of it. We get football pushed down our throats 12 months every year these days, and if like me you try your best to avoid it, then all you ever see is the drinking and bad behaviour which goes hand in hand with it. It is overhyped, overegged, overlong, and overboring. scottf 28-06-2006, 14:30 It is overhyped, overegged, overlong, and overboring. In your opinion! Johnh 28-06-2006, 14:38 In your opinion! You forgot one Scott ... and 'over here' on the TV!!! scottf 28-06-2006, 14:56 Its not though- its the most popular sport in the world- more people watched englands last match on tv than watched diana's funeral so i wouldn't say it was being rammed down your throats, the major broadcasters are just showing what the people what to watch!!! There are plenty of other channels to watch, just turn over. OK Scott, free terestrial, thats fine. I've no objection to that! Who on earth came up with the statistic about Diana's funeral and a football match. Its like saying more people watched Zebrugge disaster on TV than England playing Cricket against the west indies. The comparison is ubiquitous. I must say I agree with Muddy Coffee. I think the marketing in soccer has got out of hand and the flock follow on! scottf 28-06-2006, 15:22 Actually- it was reported that because it was the highest amount of people ever to have watched tv at once- beating the funeral. tinsel_ninja 28-06-2006, 15:26 I'm sorry love but you are missing the point, I don't watch it or read about it, Ancient Gypo I would love to go into a pub that isn't a football pub, BUT IT IS RAMMED SO FAR DOWN ALL OF OUR THROATS THAT EVERY BLOOMING PUB HAS TV ON IN EVERY ROOM AND ALL THE STAFF WEARING TACKY ENGLAND SHIRTS. The same with X-factor or other mass-market TV drivel. I dedicate myself to avoiding it, but still end up knowing a fair bit about the shows. For this reason i sympathise, it just seeps into you through all the information channels we are constantly exposed to. However, I can also offer two bits of advice: 1) If you work hard, you can avoid it. i know VERY little about this BB and I'm proud of that. (There are lots of pubs that don't show the footie, listen to Radio 2 / 4 or put a tape on in your car). 2) Let others enjoy it. It'll be over in 2 weeks anyway. Johnh 28-06-2006, 15:27 Actually- it was reported that because it was the highest amount of people ever to have watched tv at once- beating the funeral. OK Scott, shall we draw a line under this comparison?? What are your thoughts on the dedicated channels on terrestrial. Maybe one for Cricket, Soccer, Motor Racing, Rugby. The reason I say Sky is that there is bandwith there cope with it. Probably should say FreeView as everywhere will be digital around this area in the next couple of years. That then frees up areas where people want to view light entertainment. Its rather selfish to take up one of five terrestrial channels for soccer willman 28-06-2006, 15:35 OK Scott, shall we draw a line under this comparison?? Probably should say FreeView as everywhere will be digital around this area in the next couple of years. That then frees up areas where people want to view light entertainment. Its rather selfish to take up one of five terrestrial channels for soccer i really do think its selfish not to want to share 5 channels. 1 shows footie that means you get 4 to choose from,if footie is on the ITV stations it means i'm getting less value for money from the BBC than those not watching football. seriously if MOTD wasn't on BBC i would have no need for the channels. now thats unfair & selfish. scottf 28-06-2006, 15:35 But who should control this 'sports channel'?? The bbc don't show enough sport to run a dedicated channel and ITV couldn't share with them because of the advertising that they use. Your saying that there taking over one of the channels just for this then i must beg to differ- they show 2 matches a day- lasting approx 2 and a half hours - so thats 5 hours a da- hardly taking it over!!! muddycoffee 28-06-2006, 15:46 so you obviously havn't seen the pubs that are advertised as football free then?? the wig and pen in town for one. Certainly havent seen or heard of a pub which is football free. But thanks for that I might venture down on saturday. I wish you would all just stop complaining and accept the fact it will be like this until a week on sunday. Right then, this is the second thread where people wish to complain about the blanket coverage of football where football fans have ruined it by making stupid observations like "you don't have to watch it", "its only once a year" etc.. What we are complaining about and wishing to discuss is where can we go where we don't have to be inconvenienced with people shouting at football matches and wearing football shirts and wanting to talk to us about football all the time. muddycoffee 28-06-2006, 15:49 1) If you work hard, you can avoid it. i know VERY little about this BB and I'm proud of that. It wouldn't have such a high profile were that not the case. muddycoffee 28-06-2006, 16:01 Right because I don't want to talk about the ins and outs of football just avaiding, it I have started a thread about just that. How does somebody wearing a football shirt 'inconvenience' you? Relax. The fact is that vast amounts of people DO want to see the football. It wouldn't have such a high profile were that not the case. Its got such a high profile because of the marketing men. Its just that your average football supporter is too stupid to see that. As for wearing the football shirt, why does it bring out the moronic side of people? Thats probably why Weatherspoons won't allow them in their pubs?? Na, nah, nah, Vindaloo etc. Need I say more!! MaccDave 28-06-2006, 16:08 i think you'll find that the morons who cause trouble wearing a football shirt are the same morons who cause trouble when there is no football. The are just morons. please don't tar all football fans with the same brush. However i can perfectly well understand how you may be sick of the world cup/football in general. I generally stay away from pubs showing the football as the atmosphere can fluctuate between very good and very bad and gives the morons an excuse to cause aggro. As for wearing the football shirt, why does it bring out the moronic side of people? Thats probably why Weatherspoons won't allow them in their pubs?? Na, nah, nah, Vindaloo etc. Need I say more!! 1. The World Cup has been reasonably popular, and certainly broadcast live on TV, for a few decades now, well before the marketing men attempted to ruin football. 2. But the "average football fan" (if there is such a thing) doesn't let the marketing men ruin football. They just carry on as they always did, watching football, and getting annoyed when people that know nothing about pretend to be interested. 3. The Nobel prize winning philosopher and writer Albert Camus, who played as a goalkeeper in his younger years, was certainly a fan of football. Not sure if he was "average" or not. But who is? www.camus-society.com/camus-football.htm e.g., "Camus was once asked by his friend Charles Poncet which he preferred, football or the theatre - Camus is said to have replied 'Football, without hesitation.' " 4. Morons behave like morons because they are morons, not because of football. Or lager for that matter. tinsel_ninja 29-06-2006, 10:52 There must be other advantages to the football being on, for non-footie fans.
