View Full Version : Nice Italian Restaurants karl2784 27-06-2006, 18:40 Hi there. Does anyone know of any nice italian restaurants in sheffield? any good experiences? Thanks guys!:) Pipine 27-06-2006, 18:49 I think Marcos @ Milanos next to Millhouses Park is the best italian in Sheffield. Slightly more expensivve than your average run of the mill italian but worth it. AlBal 27-06-2006, 19:04 Rossi's definately. Theres also a little Italian place on Meadowhead next to Mitchells wine, i've heard loadsa good comments about it. xxx H.O.D. 27-06-2006, 19:15 I would vote against Rossi's - we went a while back for a "team meal", there were a ot of us and we'd had some very expensive wine, but even so, the bill seemed a little expensive. When we disected it they'd tried to overcharge us by almost £300... We pointed this out and the waiter looked very sheepish and shuffled off, returning moments later with an adjusted bill. happyhippy 27-06-2006, 19:20 Hi there. Does anyone know of any nice italian restaurants in sheffield? any good experiences? Thanks guys!:) Piccolo on West Street! Limited menu really, but why have 40 average dishes when you can have 20 well executed ones! Not been for ages, but will have to get at some point ....... The Maitre d' is great too ...... will have a good laugh with you, even if he has gone into Basil Fawlty mode ...... Enjoyed every time I've been there .... and really quite reasonable as the food is good ......... Patrick1346 27-06-2006, 21:53 marco @ milanos is an amazing restaurant, named in a national broadsheet paper as one of the top 10 Italian restaurants in the UK. AlBal 28-06-2006, 09:39 Just thought of another. Litty Italy in Dronfield, fantastic!!! I've been there loadsa times and its beautiful, great service, extremeley good fresh food and its a nice tiny little restaurant. I went a couple of weeks ago for a birthday and i ordered the steak.....it was like a mini joint of beef and so tender and soft, i think it was £17 for the steak which isn't bad. Also on a sunday its 1/2 price pizza and pasta night. :D xxx nick2 28-06-2006, 09:48 marco @ milanos is an amazing restaurant, named in a national broadsheet paper as one of the top 10 Italian restaurants in the UK. God knows how they won that, probably because they are expensive and pretentious, was the paper the Observer by any chance ? *Twinkle* 28-06-2006, 09:52 I used to go to BB's, Division St every month for about a year and a half... Very intimate, gorgeous food, nice atmosphere and reasonably priced... Stopped going after two consecutive occurances of poor service, followed up with a rather snooty letter to the management, but since that is almost 2 years ago, I may be tempted to go again, as I miss their lovely starters! mmmm! mrsb73 28-06-2006, 10:30 Been to a fab one in Rotherham called E'Lupos on Effingham Street, with live music on a Friday night and singing waiter included! Part owned by a guy called Steve who also owns Music World in Sheffield I think. Very highly recommended. blondie-blue 28-06-2006, 11:35 ferdinando's at meadowhead next to mithchells wine merchants is fantastic, went there last night and the food was excellent.... la scala on abbeydale road is great too....!! :) Angie v 28-06-2006, 11:41 "Dino's" on london road is very nice, not too expensive and very nice food, its a family run buisness so always very friendy. Only problem is, the last couple of times we have been passed there has been blinds up to the windows, so not sure if they are away or renovating. But if its still open, well worth a visit. Pipine 28-06-2006, 12:01 God knows how they won that, probably because they are expensive and pretentious, was the paper the Observer by any chance ? I've been to Marcos@Milanos loads and never found it pretentious... far from it. We're always made to feel totally welcome (even when we turn up in jeans and t shirts) and the level of service is just right. The prices aren't ridiculous, you get what you pay for.. which is something above and beyond most italians. The food is delicious and Marco is always very friendly. Can't recommend it more highly. DJONH 28-06-2006, 12:35 Dino's on London Rd for me too - pokey but pleasant :) Bago 28-06-2006, 22:26 Yeh, I do recommend Marco too. Between choosing somewhere like Nonnas (and I do vouch that they are the *most* authentic Italian restaurant you can find in Sheffield as well), and Marco. Marco slightly wins it for me. If you think about how much you pay for a meal in the city centre, and what you get for it. Then you surely wouldn't mind paying a little extra for more authenticity. Sometimes it's not about portion sizes. It's not somewhere I go often, but definitely worth trying out for special occasions. I was quite surprised that Marco was recommended in the newspapers. Finally, something worthy up North ! Well done to them. Patrick1346 29-06-2006, 14:18 I believe the newspaper in question was the Observer. I have booked a table at Marco's for Friday week, I will let you all know what it was like. Ousetunes 29-06-2006, 15:04 I'd echo the forummer who mentioned Piccolo's, just off West Street. Jose classes his establishment as 'alternative Italian' and that's just about right. Great for steaks and with decent wines (esp. Valpolicella and Chianti) and with an intimate, personal touch. Their garlic bread is worth going for alone. It's a nice place to take a partner. Also recommended: BBs on Devonshire Green and Mama and Leonnie's (the latter serve the finest spare ribs in Sheffield). Oooh, that's got me goin',..... nick2 29-06-2006, 15:06 Vitos in Walkley is very good too. There is a new one on Abbeydale Road. It's right on the corner that bears right just after the fork on London Road. L'Incontro (can't remember exact spelling) It's the same family that ran Dino's. I can't recommend the place highly enough. Me and my mates have been at least once a week since we found it. Sign Writer 16-03-2008, 09:19 I have tried two Italians in London Road,Rossis which was very sad, overpriced and the food wasnt up to much, given the bill which was wrong twice and heard alot of grumbles from other people at the bar,the deco and some student on the door acting as a door man was amusing:hihi:...spose thats what you are paying for and La Romantica which was worse and an embarsement to Italian food, the restaurant seems to be stuck in a time warp probally 1979heres an example of the service....my other half had the vege spaghetti which was red hot (strange for italian food) which literally burnt our mouth and when she complained politely to the waitress she turned around and said that we will not be charged for the uneatable dish and we wouldnt be able to come back to the restaurant i enquired if she was the manager she said no so i asked to see him and he was to busy cooking.....how these places get away with crap is beyond me......best Italian i have been to was Ferdinandos opposite the Norton..... sTaGeWaLkEr 16-03-2008, 09:36 best Italian i have been to was Ferdinandos opposite the Norton..... It's cosy, friendly, authentic and the food is good. Ferdinando is indeed a great chef/restauranteur and is one of life's colourful characters. Ferd - if you're reading, I hope you're well. :) Pietro la vache x Yog Sothoth 18-03-2008, 10:00 There's a few up Chesterfield Road. Kito's at Woodseats, and another whose name escapes me, also in Woodseats. Then there's Pachino's at Meersbrook/Heeley. Never been to any of them but would welcome opinions. jgcomp 18-03-2008, 10:35 Went to Piccolo on West Street last night with 2 friends, nice environment, and the food and wine was very nice... jenna141230 18-03-2008, 14:51 We went to Pappa Ciccio's (?) in Crosspool the other week and it was lovely. BYO which was a bonus and cost about £30 for 2 starters, mains 1 desert and a coffee and a coke. shazzamattazza 19-03-2008, 16:50 God knows how they won that, probably because they are expensive and pretentious, was the paper the Observer by any chance ? Agree 100% with the above, very very pretentious place. I went with a few business collegues and we left a hefty tip as the bill was nearly £300, however as we we about to leave they decided that we hadn't been charged for a coffee. So they wanted us to pay for a coffee (about £3) I told them to take it out of the tip we had left, oh and whilst you are at it give us the tip back. Suprise suprise they dissappeard into the kitchen not to be seen again. Now for the price of a coffee they have lost a lot of business, as I will never ever recommend nor go back there again, Oh and if you are silly enough to go there, wear a spangly top, and too much make up they will be all over you like a rash. seem to like the dore n totley crowd in there. citroen 19-03-2008, 21:04 piccalos on west st or the old flying pizza, first had gnocci in there and aint found it since :hihi: |
