I know a lot of people may not like polls on here. This poll is not designed to make fun of anybody, or make any definitive points.

All opinion polls have the weaknesses of being just a snapshot of people’s opinions, which continously change. Although, I would really appreciate it if people would vote just because I’m really interested in gauging what people think. So I would prefer it if you gave an honest vote.

I appreciate this may not be all the choices people would like. I also appreciate that people may not agree with my definitions, but they are the definitions from which I will be able to gauge.

I've tried to give everybody a shot at their opinion, even entering a sixth option at the last minute.

Definitions of the choices in the poll:

Labour: Someone who believes that those who produce by hands or by brain should receive the full fruits of their labour, and that the commanding Heights of the economy should be brought under national control. (ie Labour)

Conservative: Someone who believes in the primacy of the free market in the decision making process over dividing the wealth of country has produced. (i.e. Thatcher and Reagan)

Liberal: Someone who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties, and their policies lie somewhere between Conservative and Labour. (i.e Paddy Ashdown.)

Fascist: Someone who believes democracy and civil liberties are detrimental to the nationalist community, and wishes to impose a narrowly defined politically correct (i.e. PC in Stalin[1] USSR and Hitler Germany) view upon every sphere of life in a one party state. (i.e. Mussolini and Hitler)

Communist: Someone who believes every spree of production should be nationalized, and wishes to impose a narrowly defined politically correct (i.e. PC in Stalin[1] USSR and Hitler Germany) view upon every sphere of life in a one party state. (ie USSR and China.)

Communist 2: Someone who believes the amount of patient of the working class has to be the act of the working class, and that every sphere of life should be democratized and brought under the control of the people.

Footnote 1. I’m not saying Stalin was a fascist, but he did institute political correctness like Hitler.

Thank you in anticipation of your participation.

I'm impressed. There are thousands of books wasting millions of words trying to describe what you've managed to simplify in a few short sentences.:P

Tony Blair is up GWB's arse... Always has been, always will be whilever he's PM :loopy:

But then again, the British government always has been the US administration's "Yes" men regardless of who's been in the top job both sides of the big Pond over the years... It's just that until Blair, this fact was somewhat less obvious.

Can I vote twice? I would put him somewhere between Conservative and Fascist (by your definition anyway!). He is certainly a monetarist, but also seems to have a definate dislike for civil liberties!

since when did fascists ever choose pink? :D :D and when did paper ever come from rainforests?

anyway

I would say that he is a Christian Democrat - i.e authoritarian social democrat. Perhaps not quite as monetarist as the German Christian Democrats, but not far off.

And the closest to that is TORY in my book

Tony Blair MP = I'm Tory Plan 'B'

Since about 10% of the rainforest is used for paper. The other 90% for argricultural land, desirable hardwood and probably firewood.

Judging by the poll some people seem to have some strange ideas about different types of political ideology. As someone who has studied Political Ideologies (though by no means an expert) I get the impression that some of the terms are misunderstood.

For example, according to the poll 4 people belive Tony Blair to be a Fascist. Britain has never had a Fascist government. Perhaps the best known example of one would be Benito Mussolini's rule of Italy from 1922 - 1945. (Hitler was a Nazi not a Fascist. Although there are many similarities, strictly speaking they are not the same). The best known British Fascist was Oswald Mosely in the 1930s but he was never in government let alone Prime Minister. There is also a considerable difference between politicians who do not believe in multiculturalism (such as Enoch Powell or, perhaps, Norman Tebbit) and Fascists. They are not the same at all.

Neither is it true to say Tony Blair is a Conservative, or for that matter to say Conservatives always believe in the primacy of the free market. Historically it was Liberals (now known as Classical Liberals) who believed this. It is true however that some modern Conservatives have had a Classical Liberal approach to economics (though not social policy). Conservatives do tend to believe in structured society and law and order.

I thought it was purple. I think that purple does have connections with Fascism (and royalty also). It is also a colour Tony Blair has chosen in the past too, though he is neither royal or a Fascist.

Wish I'd read your definitions before voting, doh! I voted Labour but under your definitions I would class him as liberal. I am a member of the Labour party but under your defintions I would fall under liberal too!

I'd like to know why you've posed this particular question???
