Yes. It was free in the pub I went to and normal pub prices.

Yes me and a work colleague went to watch the England game against Sweden and they charged us £2, this is ONLY when England play, and also you couldn`t use your Loyalty Card either, and ALSO they didnt have the cheap drinks on after 7pm and then we had to drink out of PLASTIC pints............ a right rip-off.
Grandad.Malky 25-06-2006, 20:10 Vote with your feet and go to another pub, its like when they charge for New Years Eve, they only do it because they know some are daft enough to pay.

Totally agree go to a different pub or get a group of mates together and watch it whislt drinking and have a bbq
SpiderPete 25-06-2006, 20:59 Thats why I am now watching them at home............ cost = free
its not the fact that we had to drink outta plastic pint pots or anything like that tthat bugs me, its that we pay £2 each to get in and then as soon as the final whistle goes they say that they arent serving at the bar for the next hour.. whats that all about...
aside from this it was without doubt the best atmosphere to watch the match in.... Eng-er-land !!!
ormester 25-06-2006, 23:46 2 pound your being taken for a mug hallam union free to get in 5 big screens today kingdom apparentley was free and first drink free
ormester 25-06-2006, 23:47 if they dont serve thats basically to clean up and get the footy fans out a regualr tactic thats used
Don_Kiddick 26-06-2006, 07:39 I wouldn't have paid it! :o
Instead I'd have laughed in the faces of the ticket vendors "HAHAHAHAA!" and gone to a different watering hole.
Damned highway robbery!
ninjatoon 26-06-2006, 08:56 £2 to get in, but I bet it still says 'free-house' above the door!

It cant have been that much of a rip off if u went in
Ousetunes 26-06-2006, 09:43 It's a bit cheeky isn't it? But hey, two nicker? It's hardly extortion and frankly, you weren't forced to go in were you?
Plenty of other (and IMO better) pubs to choose to watch the World Cup in.
Whatever you do don't go to the Hillsborough Hotel.
Don't want my view of the tele blocked or to have to queue at the bar:hihi:

That was the "Old" monk.
Think how much it would have cost to go in the New one!
Don_Kiddick 26-06-2006, 09:53 In fact - I'd have had the monk - on all night! :hihi:
Don't worry - it's not habbit forming :D
Old Monk always charge. I remember going there for a Man Utd (im SuFc) match once and it was a quid. I don't go there out of principle anymore, plus I hate the place!
Jimbob1989 26-06-2006, 10:09 Might want to try the swimm inn? went last night, had several tv's with footy on and a projector :) cheep beer, was no one on the door when portugal were playing last night, don't know if its different when theres an england game on, but don't think so.

Hoffmeister?? :hihi:
I don't see what all the fuss is about £2 will not bankrupt anyone. I have watched the last three games at the old monk and the atmosphere is spot on. £2.20 for a pint of Carling is also very reasonable in my opinion. I had always heard Yorkshire people were tight but come on £2!!!
£2 will not bankrupt anyone but why pay it when there are other perfectly good pubs with screens in the same area? Think its more Principle than anything else mate and £2.20 for a pint of carling ain't really that cheap cos if you only have 2 pints then you'd basically be paying £3.20 a pint. \

What's the point in going to the pub to watch the footie if you're only going to have two pints?

I dunno.. Use your imagination!! Maybe people have to work afterwards or they can't handle their drink or they don't drink or they can't drink for medical reasons. Crikey, not everyone is a lager lout!
I would think the small charge would be to keep the Riff Raff out, like Vike, Don, Owdlad...all trouble makers!:suspect:
ormester 26-06-2006, 16:17 yes 2 pound is to put the rif raf off going in
youwhatref 26-06-2006, 19:03 It'll probably pay for the additional security too. Plus ppl will pay it so they might as well cash in.
ormester 26-06-2006, 22:02 wonder if we will get a big screen in sheffield for the further rounds
SpiderPete 26-06-2006, 22:11 I have heard the council are getting a big screen in at the winer gardens, here is a exclusive look
