View Full Version : Lunch time queues
I know this has probably been mentioned before, but I have to moan. Why is it people who don't work, have to go into the banks and shops at dinner time? Why do this to yourselves? Us people who work and don't have all day, need to do shopping and paying off bills in our dinner time, so please tell me, why is it you are always waiting for some one who obviously is not on a time scale, dither at the cashier/checkout!
its like old people going into town to do their shopping. Why do they have to get on the bus at the same time as everyone who is going to work/going into town at lunchtime.
And why do women never have the money out ready to pay the driver? They travel the same route day after day and know the fare but they always get to the front of the queue and then have to dig in their bag for their purse?

Its because people who dont work only get up at lunchtime and go straight out.....and they also complain about "WORKING PEOPLE" clogging up banks and Q's......
All these problems will be solved with the introduction of id cards. If you see someone at lunchtime who you suspect doesn't work you'll be able to call the city cente ambassadors or police and demand that they inspect the anti-social miscreants' cards. If they are found to be not entitled to be 'in town' during the proscribed time you can demand that they be taken away.
I remember in Covent garden one Xmas they had the streets devided into 2 lanes. A slow labe for old folks and tourists etc, and an "express lane" for people in a hurry or with little time.
Must'nt have worked cos dont think theyve done it since, but I giggled at the time
They have something similar on the Moor. One lane for folks with brollies up which is under the parapets, and one for those without brollies which is out in the rain.
haha...that's pretty spot on!
...because its such a hoot to stand in the middle of a busy shop with rude, ignorant people pushing you from all sides.

just an afterthought....why dont you do your shopping online, use online banking to pay your bills and get the mother in law to run the drycleaning around.
problem solved.
then us inconsiderate folk can queue at lunchtime in peace.:D :D
About umbrellas in general...it's a small point, but has anyone else ever taken the time to lift there's a little way over those of the other pedestrians using them as they walk by?
I don't always remember to myself, but when I do I try to take into account the fact that I'm quite tall and lift mine over the top of my fellow umbrella user's, that way two people with them can usually get by on a pavement.
The alternative is to barge past and almost tear the thing from the hands of the other person and then glare at them as if they had done something worng.
Just a thought...
LittleWitch 08-06-2004, 13:40 I'm only little, so I always get poked in the eye with umbrellas - usually by old ladies - you know the ones - the Hell's Grannies who go around in gangs, looking for trouble and stinking of lavender.
Sigh...
"These layabouts in lace, senile delinquents..."
"Pension day's the worst, they go mad...blow it all on some meat for the cat."
Is it me, or are old people getting more vicious these days?
Never mind the kids, some of these old fellas were trained to kill and infiltrate during the war, what chance to we have?

Sorry, but this is ridiculas. Maybe this is the type of action Blunkett has in mind, it wouldnt surprise me.
People have civil liberties, imposing an ID card will take them away. Do we really want a BIg Brother state administered by right wing nutters like Blunkett?

You might want to make a joke out of it, but the introduction of ID cards worries many people.
Using terrorism as an excuse to take away our civil liberties is a serious issue.
Adopts Kilroy Silk style crazed right wing voice:
"But what do you have to hide, eh, eh? If you had nothing to hide then you'd welcome the ID cards and the police state!!!"

Seriously though are you no favour of ID cards or not?
NOTE:- i will be laughing when i see the results for the local and eurpean elections! dont think you will:thumbsup:
dylan_61 08-06-2004, 14:41 I suggested in an earlier post that Castle Market and The Moor should be relocated to Crystal Peaks. This would clear the city centre of less pleasant members of Sheffield society.
This would also reduce the queues at the bank, as people wouldn't be clogging them up depositing the free money they get from people who bother working.
A working person should have separate queues from the work shy and free house pram pushing teenagers.
This way we would be able to do our chores at lunchtime without the blight of the unwashed.
Have you heard yourselves. Complaining because people have the ordacity to go into town at lunchtime and god forbid go to various shops and banks and queue up. Jeez..you all need help :loopy:

Ah, seriously, That's a different kettle of fish. No, I don't agree with id cards as I cannot see what problems they will solve. There's a thread somewhere which contains most of the arguments against id cards and I agree with most of them. However, they did miss out one important reason for not having id cards, I look terrible in photos.
Personally I don't have any problem with ID cards. If you've nothing to hide............

Mod: There is a good Identity Card thread here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3126&highlight=identity). If you want to start using it I will transfer the relevant posts out of this thread in due course.
Infestation 08-06-2004, 16:54 What I don't understand is why everywhere is only open until 5. I understand people wanting to work until 5, or only being able to work till 5 because of other commitments, but I would have thought there was enough of a supply of labour to open banks and the such an extra couple of hours, even if it is only a couple of days a week. For people working in the city centre, I'm sure this would be a super bonus.
