Hi All, OK so it's not Sheffield based but I was wondering if anyone was going to the Wireless Festival (The Who, The Flaming Lips, Super Furry Animals, The Zutons etc.) and knows what their policy on viewing the football is?

Also, I've got a ticket going spare, so if you're thinking of going I can meet and sell it cheaper than the gate price.

Hoping the weather holds out and we anhialate Ecuador!
Cheers!

I was about to start a similar thread...

Yep I'm going tomorrow, and also unsure if they're are having a big screen or not! I suspect not (which is quite strange) as every other festival coinciding with Football, usually erect a big screen or something?!

I went on the wireless website earlier today and there was no mention of anything Footie related, which is quite disappointing :( I'm hoping something is arranged in time, otherwise the bands that are playing at the same time as the match will be playing to a bunch of people listening to radios...

i'm going and having been on the wireless forum, they are def not sbowing football - apparently they dont have licence to put up big screens etc

my boyfriend is gutted, but im glad there for the music, not footie!

if you see me i'll be the one singing along to the zutons the loudest....! :)

I went yesterday to see Massive Attack, DJ Shadow and Goldfrapp - quite a nice little venue, no big screen that I could see, I'm afraid, and the events staff are little Hiltlers.

But in spite of that, and the weather, it was gfood fun - would recommend it. :)

Downsides - it did take 2 hours to get out of the car park.

Yeah, fantastic day out (Super Furries were supreme!), but the car parking thing was a disaster!

I can't for the life of me see why big events have hundreds of parking marshalls when people arrive, but think it's acceptable not to have any at all when the gig turns out. It was complete chaos - swearing, shouting, tears... and that was just in my car.

If it wasn't for some kind-spirited punter taking charge and directing people, I think we'd still be stuck in that field now.

We tried using the free bus - great for getting from Leeds city centre to Harewood, but a nightmare getting out!
Liked the bring your own booze option, shame about the football but generally a good day. I'm sure I wasn't the only one torn between SFA and The Flaming Lips. Went for Super Furries in the end and they were ace as always!

The Super Furries were very, very good.
Although as a big fan of The Who (and of Pensioners in general) they were the highlight for me!

The parking was a fiasco; many thanks to the parking "officials" who were conspicuous by their absence. Cheers

I was pleasantly suprised. I thought "they'll be alright" but they exceeded that, great band. I know its an old cliché to say it but they really are under-rated.

You have to love a band who make an effort to bring a santa on stage, and to sing with a space helmet on. Also, being a short-arse and generally unable to see the stage at any gig, I liked the projections as they gave me something to watch when the inevitable tall, afro'd fatman stood in front of me! I love 'em.

Yeah, and they played down the gimmicks at the weekend. Bring on the neon suits, beach buggy, yeti costumes and Pete Fowler furry animals I say!

I found a piece of Gruff's celery in my jeans pocket this morning - what a band.

Ooh, get that celery on Ebay. You might make a bit of money there!:hihi:

That's what my girlfriend said!
It's a bit too wilted now otherwise I would have given it to our hamster.

By the way, did anyone else get hundreds of free Snickers at Wireless?

feargal

Just two. I was distinctly disappointed in the lack of freebies. Been to stuff before and come away with wine, tequila, ice cream, Green & Black chocolates... bloody snickers! I don't even like 'em.

Did anyone see the cider van? £10 for a pint of cider - its more expensive than Jesus' ****.

Blimey! I've been going to festivals for twelve years and the only freebie I remember getting was a tiny cup of Strongbow :gag:

Didn't see the cider van but they were selling Pimms by the pint at one stall.

feargal

Yeah, and that was six quid a pint as well. There wasn't much of a queue.

For my shame, I have to admit that the best outdoor gig for freebies was Jools holland  - a better class of scrounging to be had there.

I've been going some time too, and never had a thing free either. Ooooh forgive me, except a little packet with a tiny toothpaste tester and shower gel.

I did get a Snickers on Saturday though.

The cider fairies at V Festival are great. They're just paid to take samples around to people and cant be arsed to walk around, so people just kept going up to them and getting a top-up, and they were happy because they didn't have to lug cider around to the masses.

Yep, god bless the little Cider folk who do a sterling job at V!!

I got two Snickers, but unfortunately both were harder than nails...
It was like trying to crunch through glass.

My best freebie recently was after watching England v Trinidad & Tobago we went to Fab Cafe in Leeds, as we sat having a drink a guy came up to us and said "Does anyone want any free chips?"
Free chips! In the pub! Three bowls worth too!!!
