Hi

Just had a bloke come round to see if our property was rented or owned he mumbled something about windows then left. He was clearly sizing the houses on our street up to see which were empty and appeared to be with another guy in a blue shirt going door to door with some leaflets.

We live just off Commonside near the Dram Shop anyone else encountered these guys?

This sounds very like a young bloke who turned up at my door earlier this week, and mumbled something about the windows. He was wearing an outfit absolutely covered in paint. There was another bloke with him out in the street, and there was a big blue or white van parked nearby.

I thought it was all a bit suspicious and was a bit concerned by it - he said something about them being in the area (the usual touting tradesman's line), but they were only around for about 5 minutes, as far as I know.

I live in Walkley, btw.

What i do when someone rings is to stay upstairs pretending to be out and get your camcorder ready and the police number.

I think these are the same blokes I saw in Hillsborough / Wadsley last week. They kept ducking up and down passages. As most people on our street are at work during the week I was wondering what they were up to. It was a white, battered old transit van. When I walked past they were muttering to each other about it being a bit too posh to bother looking round here.
DODGY!!

I had the guy in the blue shirt with a shaved head knock at the door this morning. They said they were selling windows (even though I have double glazing already) for Safestyle UK and left a leaflet. The fat bloke joined him a minute later but didn't say anything. I still have the leaflet with the contact number on if anyone wants to phone up and see if they were dodgy or not.

My god, that company has a bad enough press without this association. Have they ever heard of PR?

We live in Upperthorpe and our neighbour goes to work very early in the morning and found some guy in our back yard nosing about. He muttered something to her and scarpered so we thought that was the end of it. Our neighbours across the road weren't so lucky, either just before or just after he came poking round our house he'd burgled them whilst they were asleep! Our neighbour had to give a description to the police and a week later they caught him red-handed robbing a house on Blake St.

And my girlfriend thought I was daft when I recently had fitted some nice hidden cameras in the front and back of our house, I think I'll show her this thread :hihi:

I've just had these two come around 1pm asking asking the same questions, the one who I saw most clearly had a really scruffy notepad and claimed to be working for Anglia windows.

They are **now** doing Parson Cross Road in Wadsley Bridge so keep an eye ou everybody and make sure you shut those windows if you have to nip out for a minute

I would do that, but didn't want them to be obvious so that anyone committing an offence managed to shield themselves from them or that they became a target for vandals or people planning to commit an offence.

That's a bit mental, to be honest.

Best advice you can get - if the cops get enough reports (and decent descriptions) they will actually patrol the area and will know exactly what they're looking for.

I live in Abbeydale and we had a similar experience recently - after reporting it there was a police presence in the area... which made a nice change!

Well if they botherd to read the no salesmen sticker in the door it would have saved me doing it

I don't think it was meant to be funny.

Just a sensiible course of action to take:thumbsup:

Yes, and just to boot I did not slam the door in his face I just closed it after a pleasent smile.. In fact I was quite polite to say I had read the thread saying in so many words that they seemed to be less than cosher type salesmen.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is a heads up to anyone in the Bole Hill Road area that I've just had what looks like the same guys knocking on my door. Make sure you lock your doors and windows if you go out.
