= Not very good!

Today I was feeling a little stiff from football last night so decided to go to concord spa to relax and soothe the muscles/joints. So I get changed, go to the spa entrance door only to find it locked  hmmm. So I go back in, get changed and leave but before doing so go to the front desk if the spa was closed only to be told "just for today im afraid'. Had a look round the front desk and no signs to point out this fact to prospective customers. Little bit disgruntled, but nonetheless thought I would take advantage of the flexibility of my F.Unlimited and go straight down to Hillsborough Leisure centre.

So I get there, go upstairs, into the male changing rooms only to find all the lockers are for customers who purchase the lockers for a year at a high cost...thus meaning customers who do not use the facility that regular have to go get changed downstairs, walk through a cafeteria and lounge in shorts and towel to go through to the spa. So I go through, go for a shower where the knobs are old and worn so it was "predict your water temperature". After that, I proceed into the steam room...when I say steam room I mean a luke-warm room with mist. Absolute crap, I was actually cold sat in there so I thought id go to the Sauna...only to find the bottom two shelves have been removed and hardly no space to sit on the one remaining upper shelf.

So after spending a full 6 minutes in this "spa" I decided to call it a day and had to walk down, sopping wet downstairs freezing into the changing rooms where the showers didn't work so had to dry off and get out! I was told the other day Hillsborough won "Leisure Centre of the Year" award...How they did that I do not know because since the revamp Concord beats Ponds Forge and Hillsborough hands down.

All in all a very substandard of service recieved from my fitness unlimited today!

Rant over.

Sorry but that’s simply not true. I go in all the time to use the gym and all the lockers are free to use, admittedly if its busy you may struggle but there isn't an annual locker rental. There are notices all over saying padlocks will be cut off every night if people leave stuff in them.

Well at an estimate I will say there are around 70 lockers in the upstairs changing room...1/7 of those could quite easily be converted to pound-coin deposit lockers that would make things run a bit easier then having to trape up and down those stairs if you are a first time visitor.

Why would that make things easier? The lockers are free as it stands, you can buy a padlock from reception if you need one. I'd say 70 lockers would be a good estimate but having to pay to use 10 of those essentially means they are lost to people like me. You walked up and down the stairs because you didn't read the signs in the changing room or ask a member of staff

No Gaz, if you read what I put then I said "pound DEPOSIT" type lockers...those aren't a rarity these days and are on offer at concord. End of the day Gaz customers like myself don't frequent Hillsborough and to me I felt penalised for not having a padlock which I would get little or no use out of. Is this sharp practice on their part? Maybe so.

Right, see what you mean with the deposit thing now. It is sharp practice on their part, unless of course you go to the gym a lot, then its a bargain :)

I mean even the ones downstairs are 20p CHARGEABLE!

So lets say you put your stuff in the locker, lock it, then proceed to find you left your car keys in your pocket and you need to put them in your lockers...its gonna cost you.

Now I appreciate 20p isn't a great deal of money, but if you have no change its a great deal of hassle that other gyms I frequent im glad to say adopt a more logical policy!

Got to admit about the steam room aswell, the drains stunk something vile and was quite an intoxicating experience! Smelled like a mixture of rain water, sweat and cheap disenfectant.

Like I said, was in for whole of 3 minutes...Worked up a bigger sweat Ironing!
