This topic must have been spoken about like zillions of times ! but hey.

Last Wednesday, i was bored... so I got on the bus, got on a train, and went to Grindleford... Sounds boring, and yes, it is, but sooooo damn beautifull !

I took something like 100 photos... Padley Gorge was ace (had never walked that side of it... I'm used to Frog's gob side). did a bit of sad anorak at the station, went to that pub near the tunnel for a cuppa...

GOOD DAY IN THE PEAK !

Nothing wrong with that at all!! I am planning to walk from Stannington to Stannage edge then in to Bamford or further if I can, need to check on that. Then depending on how I feel I may walk back aswell.

I love the peak district!!!

Being so close to such a beautify place is another wonderful thing about this great city..

Do you own a photography site captain that you are going to upload them too? I like www.deviantart.com but the search function seems only to members only, that used to bring some nice results back.

how can you live in sheffield and not love the peak district, its on your doorstep and appears so suddenly as you head out there its such a refreshing change from the city. I do end up out there at least once a week at the moment!!!! (ok so my boyfriend lives out there, but i'd still be out in the peak often enough if i wasn't seeing him!!)

oh, I bought a new tent at the weekend for some camping in Spain in August. Can anyone tell me of a good campsite in the peak district that I can get to by either train or bus.

It's criminal how close I live to the peaks and how rare I actually get out there.tsk tsk.

There is a camp site in Edale village, just a short walk from Edale station.

There is indeed. The one in Edale is closer to a pub though! ;)

Not at work today, so me and my eldest lad (16) went for a walk to the Nine Ladies standing stones. Fresh air, birds and insects, scenery, peace and quiet, history and a pint at the end in Birchover. Highly recommended.

Saw a red kite over Darley Dale!!!

Edale rules for camping - there must be a dozen or so sites including one which does a neat fried english all day - opposite the pub too.

I've been to Bakewell on the bus from Town a couple of times, but on the bus it takes 2 hours, WTF?! We can get there by CAR in under an hour going over like Rivelin Valley, Manchester Road and that way.

Best bus to Bakewell is the X18, it goes a more direct route via Totley/Owler Bar/Baslow, journey time 45 mins.

Well, we had a lovely journey from Lodge Moor to Fox House via Wyming Brook, Redmires, Stanage Edge and Burbage Brook.

Pictures here (http://www.netheredge.com/galleries/_trip)

We began with Wyming Brook (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0021.html)which has become a jungle over the last few weeks, with the vegetation competing in an orgy of systolic thrusting and climbing. The sound of the rushing stream (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0020.html)grew to a rumble as we descended towardsm rivelin, and then faded as we steep the sheer north side of the valley and sat on 'our' rock (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0026.html)- looking out to the north west, where the sun would be setting in ten hours or so. When the blood stopped rushing in our ears we set off out of the top of Wyming Brook and on up to Redmires (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/IMG_0440.html), stopping briefly to greet the waterbirds and a friendly finch (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0030.html)munching breadcrumbs on the wall.

Stopping to roll a phattie on the way up to the edge, we get surrounded in a cloud of midge, so we set a thorough pace up to the pole, where things are a little less midgy.

Up on the edge (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0034.html), low fast moving cumulus (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0443.html)and bright, bright sunshine created a dazzling display of sunlit patches flying across the hills and dales. Ouzels nesting at Stanage Edge put on a breathtaking flying display on the updraught from the ridge.

The whole landscape was buzzing with life, a living, writhing virescent mat of heather grass and bracken. We strode on, over cowper stones (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0453.html) and into Burbage, where the wind dropped and we lay on the rocks looking down at higger tor, carl wark (http://netheredge.com/galleries/_trip/pages/PICT0069.html) and the rest of the pocket landscape shimmering below, basking in the sun and listening to the larks.

Our lift arrived at the Fox House car park just as the rain started to set in. Perfect, perfect, perfect.

Nine laides are on Stanton moor. Go to Birchover, through the village and up the hill, there's a little layby just less than a mile out on the right, park there and follow the footpath uphill!!!!
