Why do all the gay club's and venues play cheesy music ? Not all gays want to hear Kylie, Wham, Abba, S Club, Weather girls, Gina G, etc. Why are there no alternatives ie. an Indie night ?
Poptastic used to have one at the Popular mucis Centre ages ago but now there's nothing. I've heard of Pink Glove but that's in the tiny Raynor bar and on Tues nights (not sure if it's still running ?). If there's alternatives for str8's then why not for the gay clubbers ? I'm sure not all gays are cheese fest lovers. Nothing against you guys who enjoy it but what about the rest of us who don't ?
Climax is as good as it gets in the 2nd room but even then it's like the DJ is only playing his own personal collection and fav's which aren't exactly what the punters want to hear. Playing the 'Starsky & Hutch theme' or Old Skool disco has only so much appeal guys ! Why not make the Climax 2nd room an indie room playing stuff from Smith's, Chemical Brothers, Keane, Ash, to Electro-Pop (ABC, Human League, Soft Cell, Sparks) to Janet Jackson, Jay Z (99 problems) etc.
What does everyone else think ?
I think it's just sheffield being limited for club nights. most other cities do have a range of different nights for bi, straight and gay

yep it is just sheffield, live din manchester and that was pretty much the same, whereas when i lived in london there was electro-clash, dnb, hiphop, anything and verything, if ur up for it we shud arrange a trip down to london for a good gay night out, have some really close gay mates down there n theyd be up for it! ive not even attempted the sheffield gay scene!!! doesnt seem appealing to me...........dempseys/!?!?! hmm!
hi all just a quick note to tell you that its fairy likuid down at aqua next friday, its the gay scene that was on at the city hall.

And of course there is Dabble at the Leadmill which is top, it plays a great variety of tunes, indie dance and house, there is a cheesy room too but thats a bit rubbish if you ask me.
There are also loads of wierd people around doing strange things its funny they make a real effort and its a top night.
Not sure when the next one is though the last one was may bank holiday but I am sure their flyers around soon, at least I hope its the only gay night where I actally like the music!

Thanks for the commets mimicraze and Princese M.
I've been to London and it's just a different world down there. The choice is very good compared to other cities (even around the world having been lucky enough to have been around). Thanks for the offer of a visit down to the London (indie) clubs mimicraze. You're lucky to have mates down there to stay over with. I usually end up looking for bargin hotels.
As for Dabble. I did go on the first night and I wasn't that impressed but maybe that's because it was the first night (a friday at Club Zero). There wasn't many in (about 30 people ?) although your quite right in that they tried very hard to make it an interesting night. What sort of indie stuff do they play ? Do many people go ? Is it in the main room at the Leadmill or smaller room ? Although I haven't been since, I believe it's now on Sunday nights (monthly ?) which is akward as I have to get up for work next morning.

Hi Trouncer
I also went to the night they did at club zero it was awful but I think that was cause it's a rubbish venue more than anything. I have been to all the ones they have done at the leadmill though and they have been fab, but the last few have been bank holiday's so not sure if thats all they are doing now just the bank holidays cause I haven't seen any more publicity for it but its a great night.
The cheesy stuff is in the room at the side the smaller stuff and the indie dance is in the main room, it plays a mix really housey dance mixed with indie dance if you know what I mean. Its a top night but like I said not sure when its on next but I am looking forward to it!!
A lot of club nights that are set up are because of peoples personal interest in the music/ club scene - i.e. when Tuesday club was set up it was because the people involved realised there wasn't a uni night like that and wanted one - same with a lot of other more dancey nights about (think lights down low).
If somewhere thinks there's a market for a gay indie night then there probably would be one, why don't you start one?
