View Full Version : Why Am I Finding It Hard To Sleep? :(
Monday morning I woke at 4.30am after just 4 hours sleep. I was wide awake and had to get up as I can't just lay in bed once awake.
Last night I didn't go to bed till 1am (or should I say this morning).....I woke up at 4am...bright eyed and bushy tailed....why aren't I sleeping???:(
I could probably understand it if the weather was scorching hot like it was last week but it's now comfortable at night.
Looks like I'm gonna get some early housework done again
Have you started eating differently, or exercising more? The obvious thing in that context would be that you're drinking more (or sometimes even less) coffee. Caffeine (or a sudden lack of it) will affect your sleep. Feeling (and being) a bit healthier always does strange things to your sleeping patterns too.
You're not stressed or worried about anything, are you? That always keeps me awake.
It could just be something as simple as being more senitive than most to the changing pattern of daylight. I'm a light sleeper generally, and I find that I'm often awake as dawn breaks. Probably something to do with having thin curtains and the bird-laden trees outside my bedroom window...

You're here for me as always......I remember you helping me with this before.
It might be to do with the very light mornings although I do have really dark curtains that shut out the light...haven't changed over to the summer ones yet :)
Not stressed or worried......have been drinking coffee at night this week which I don't normally do......it's only usual for me to have a couple of cups in a morning. You might have hit the nail on the head Hecate.:)...thank-you.
You're welcome :) .
Yes, coffee at night will really bugger up your sleep, especially if you're not used to it. I'd suggest decaf, if it wasn't so horrid.
Have you tried making a milk-based smoothie? I had one last night: a few strawberries, a handfull of frozen berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, red currents - a bargain at Tesco), a dollop of natural yogurt and some skimmed milk. Add honey if you have a sweet tooth. Give it a quick blitz in the blender. It's lovely, especially when the weather's warm, and the milk should help you to sleep.
If you're feeling lazy, just have some hot milk with a bit of honey and cinnamon in it.

That sounds absolutely yummy, but I'll leave the honey out.......I'm off to the 24 hour Tesco then for my fruit.

For most people lots of alcohol will put them to sleep but you won't get good sleep. Often you wake up in the morning feeling a bit tired.
The best sleep is always when you keep sober for days or weeks. If you do that you will have the kind of energy that will make you feel 20 years younger.
Dibsy's in love
...silly sod!!!!...too much coffee on my part that's caused it...I'm just not used to it at all.
When I wake up in the middle of the night and cant sleep I usually try counting down from 101 in 2's
101, 99, 97.............
Works a treat :)

I know I'm in trouble when I wake in the night or too early especially if I don't get back to sleep after half an hour.......I then know it's gonna be at least 2 hours before sleep finally hits me again......bad when it's say 5.30 and I'm up at 7.30 anyway. :(
when i can't sleep i jog around the garden. in my pjammies. at 4 in the moring. with my dog. then it works and i go sleepy

Is that true? I gave up caffeine about 3 weeks ago and I've hardly been sleeping at all recently. Could this be effecting it?

I haven't got a dog and I don't fancy running round the garden on my own......I'd have the neighbours talking!!!!

*Twinkle* 21-06-2006, 10:44 I've had a run of really crap night's sleep :(
Thursday night was when it started, when I was still in Greece... I was on a giddy one, had to be out of the room at 10am on Friday morning, yet at 3am, I was still running round the hotel, from the bar to the balcony and generally being daft
From there on after its pretty much gone downhill... Havent slept well since! Keep getting up at 6am with the sun shining through my curtains... Grrrrr :( Not happy!
Zinger549 21-06-2006, 10:48 Try having a cup of tea. or you could try that horlicks stuff I never had it myself but I no some people who say it helps.
