Hi! This is my first post here, but I've been lurking for a few weeks... I'm looking for some advice for a perfect night out on Saturday 5th June. There's just a few problems... basically because my wife and I are a bit unusual!

We met when we were 15 and got married a couple of days after I turned 18. We're both now 29 (well, I will be tomorrow... hence the celebration) so that's 11 years of against-the-odds married bliss punctuated by raising three kids... we're insanely in love in the kind of way that makes people jealous... BUT the consequence of that kind of life is that we don't really get out much. In fact, we last had a date two years ago... I kid you not! And it was three years again before that! Both times we found cozy little restaurants and had a meal... but it's been over a decade since we went to a pub, and neither of us have *ever* been to a nightclub...

So for my birthday Nim (Naomi) has arranged a babysitter (something we've been reluctant to do much in the past for lots of reasons I won't go into) and said "let's go out".

So this might be the only chance we get for a couple more years... if you had only one date with the woman of your dreams, where would you take her?

I'll tell you what we'd *like* to find and you can tell me if it's possible. It's corny, so please don't flame me if it's not your cup of tea: we reckon the perfect night out for us would be the bar at the bottom of Ally McBeal's building, if you've ever seen that show! Live music that we can hear the words to (I'll fetch my pipe and slippers now, oops no I'm 29 not 59), *maybe* the chance to dance, and if they serve a light meal, that would be perfect. We don't want to be the oldest people there, we don't want to be the youngest. A smoky, overcrowded place would be a no, and we'd like to be able to relax and enjoy ourselves.

So! A long post, and a tall order; any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Matt Saunders

There's a jazz club on Arundel street that does food and music... kinda pricey but frequently recommended... might be worth checking out!

I wasn't going to share this link, as I'm saving it for me and my partner, and don't want to come to book it and there be no free places!!! But you two sound sooooo romantic, I'm going to share it.

Now, I know this isn't just an evening thing, it's more of a romantic weekend away, but you wouldn't be disturbed, and the whole place is so magickal, I can't think of a better place to be with the one you love.
Hope it's of some help to you!!!
Could these two be the most romantic couple in Sheffield??? What does everybody else think?? :)

Classic Rock Bar - pick a night when there's a covers band or an acoustic band on, so it won't be too strange.

We've started serving light quality meals from 6-7pm - £2 a head! A wide variety of drinks at good prices, including real ale and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Come along to the next Sheffield Forum meet on the last Sunday of this month, there's a musician called Chris Treebeard playing - he does folk rock acoustic music and is very talented. There's space to dance if you want to! People do.

Thank you SO much for sharing with us, it looks absolutely stunning, so beautiful!!
The idea of a weekend away has never much appealed to me, but having seen 'the onionstore' I think I may have changed my mind!!

It was my pleasure, Ruby! It is such a beautiful place, there really is nowhere else like it on earth. I take my hat off to the owners, who have created the most breathtaking hideaway imaginable for couples of all ages. You won't want to leave - believe me!!! :)

Thanks to all who replied!

One Eleven looks pretty good (I had found it from the earlier description, thanks) but it's also pretty pricey! That said, I think that's where we'll go, if they have room for us...

That onion place looks amazing too... but as I hinted, time away from the children is a rarity, and I reckon we've got about 18 years to go before that's an option for us!

BTW, we do try to be pretty romantic - but a marriage like ours does take a lot of work! And the funny thing is that, along with the, frankly, glorious, highs, there are some pretty bad lows as well... but we have a rule: "Never let the sun go down on your anger". It's a good rule!

Well I'm gonna try for a table at the 111, and I'll post on Monday to say how we got on!

Cheers,

Matt

that oneeleven place looks pretty cool, but a tad pricey.

Anyone been? how was it? If it's meant to be good I'll give it a whirl, but not sure I'd go "unreccomended"
