View Full Version : Phonetics or similar?
Digitwide 20-06-2006, 14:04 does any1 kno wot has happened to phonetics ? seems to go quiet then do lots then go quiet again..ive only been to there nites in the past couple of years but find it easily the best night for me...the clubs at the moment seem a bit rubbish in this city to be honest.
i take it the tuesday club finishesx for the summer ?
Bec. err... 20-06-2006, 14:56 Like most university towns, the students provide a large chunk of the crowd at club nights. there's no point doing much in the summer when they aint here! it was the same in bristol where i used to live. chin up! remember when you were a teenager? hanging out on park benches with a bottle of cider? well, that's actually quite nice until the weather gets rubbish again, and the students come back. see you on devonshire green!
funkymiss 20-06-2006, 16:06 Yeah TTC finishes for Summer *shares my tissue*. Phonetics is often on in Earth in Plug on the Friday Metropolis nights once a month which I think will carry on over Summer...
I'm gonna check out some nights that I normally wouldn't go to while in uni, I know a lot of things are gonna quieten down over summer but why not try some new things?
Definately check out a Metropolis night at Plug if you haven't already ;)
Hiya. Love the Phonetics style. Theres a few places where you can listen to that music. Marek's baby beatbox @ Lounge most fridays is cool, he plays everything from hip hop to house with a little jazz tinge. Then head yourself off to plug to catch the phonetics lads. Hope that helps.

tumbleweed 20-06-2006, 17:12 next tuesday club is the barbecue on july 15th. local DJs in the day (free entry) and a BIG lineup for the evening event......
E-Man Groovin 20-06-2006, 17:55 Hey Digit,
The Phonetics chaps (Chris & Levi) are doing a guest spot at The Forum on Wednesday night. See my signature below...
funkymiss 20-06-2006, 18:13 You'd be sorry to miss either!
Bec. err... 21-06-2006, 14:42 Exciting news! just picked up a flyer for Adelante at the Forum, Tuesdays, because i'm interested in learning samba. After the dance lessons finish about ten, el spongebob and chris welch (from phonetics) are DJing. Which is good, because i had forgotten how the erratic british weather gets in the way of one's wino career.
queen_bee 21-06-2006, 14:56 I would highly recommend Lights Down Low for similar phonetics vibes. In fact its a very eclectic night with styles ranging from hip hop to funk, dub, soul and house. I always love a good boogie down there, and its always packed so they must be doing something right! :)
jimillmixit 21-06-2006, 21:12 You should come down to wall of balls at The Harley. Next gig 15th July feat. Mike L (First word records) The mega squad and wall of balls allstars.

Digitwide 22-06-2006, 13:51 thank u everyone for answering. I dont drink so cider and park benches is not really my scene :)
ive been to some of the nights mentioned as ive been really bitten by the music that phonetics plays-almost like a type of music in itself.ive been down to metropolis and like that night because half of my friends go for the drum and bass and half of us go for phonetics so everyones happy !! look forward to the tuesday club barbeque. I like the salsa music and all that but the tuesday night is completely different isnmt it ? even tho it looks like its run by same people. lights down low is good too but sometimes the music i find a bit predictable.
i came down to emans groovin's event at the forum and thought it was really good - very different !
Any good festivals in sheffiedl over the summer ?
keep the fire burning everyone !
Bully_Beef 22-06-2006, 14:56 Yeah, Phonetics is a great night - shame they have no venue of their own at the minute. Sure they'll be back though.
Look out for a new night starting later in July at the HUBS called SHAKE CITY. Gonna be all about original funk n soul, party hip hop, and fat breaks n beats from all over the musical shop...
Digitwide 26-06-2006, 10:26 For people who replied to this thread - i picked up a flyer for an event called across the tracks in leeds in august i think ?!?! looks really good. loads of live acts from different sytles. shame we havent got anything like this in sheffield:(
clipboard 26-06-2006, 11:33 across the tracks looks HOT and tickets aren't very much (bout 50 squiddles for both days i think) line-up is massive too and really eclectic.
