I agree- if Gerrard has to play left of a damn diamond, we have no chance. He has a sensational season for Liverpool in his correct position of central mid, so then England decide to play him somewhere else and radically reduce his effect on the game- Brilliant!!

I think the formation should alter slightly depending on who we play.

The diamond provides a neat look entertaning passing game but is flawed on the basis that it doesn't provide sufficient width.

Playing the diamond against France I feel could be suicide, I would prefer to use a 4-5-1 against them. The wide players have certainly got to cover the full backs down the flanks because France are deadly in this area with Henry drifting out like he does.

At the end of the day I suppose it is the players that win the game.
