I have noticed a number of 80's/90's cartoons that are making it to DVD and being shown on Fox kids. Bravestar, Visionairies, Mask, Ulyces etc. I wonder what else will come out? I hope they bring out the real Ghostbusters!

What do you want to come back?

Music Zone down near Atkinsons sells classic 80s toons on DVD... I recently bought the volume 2 DVD of Dogtanian and The Muskehounds, the feature length pilot episode of Defenders of The Earth, and 6 episodes of G-Force (aka Battle of the Planets) from there, all 3 for under a tenner.

Bargain!

I have Dark Crystal on VHS.

Cool film, saw it on the pictures at the old ABC on Snigg Hill in 1982, was very scared of those mutant turkey thingies (Skeksis or summat  )

Other ideas for toons that should come back on DVD:

Ewoks
Droids
Inspector Gadget
Muppet Babies
Real Ghostbusters
Original He Man cartoons

I'd also like to see a DVD release of He Man and She Ra: Secret of the Sword.. If only to save me wasting my time constantly getting outbidded for the video on Ebay.

Ha ha:D I know the feeling, i'm just a few vids of finishing the real ghostbusters but keep missing out on certain ones.

I have the G-Force ones:thumbsup: but i'm looking for Force-5, can only find them on U.S E-bay and shipping is pricey:(

You can get He-man on DVD.
She-Ra is coming out on DVD
Real ghostbusters is on sky somewhere...

I have loads of old retro 80s cartoons on video that i would like to get on DVD, i dont use my video player... dont even know where it is!

Real ghostbusters
Bravestar
He-man & She-ra - Secret of the sword!
Loads of other he-man vids
Care Bears
Stop it and tidy up
Thundercats
She-ra
Jem
The Nessies
Turtles (original)
and many more...

duffman
03-06-2004, 15:41
The Nessies, is that anything to do with Family Ness? I would also like Bananaman and Jimbo. The Turtles is classic what's with the new one, it's a bit crap IMO.

The new turtles is based on the original comic. The only thing that they took from the original toon was the head bands, as they are all red in the comic...

The Nessies/Family Ness, same thing.

I think i have jimbo the jetset too!

Rich

Meh, I still say the original Turtles cartoon was better, for the simple fact that I was in LOVE with the April O'Neil character in the originals, she was like HOT!

Sorry, what I meant was the actual animation, i'm a bit weird in that sense but I just prefer the old style.

Me too, in fact I feel the same way about the new He Man cartoons on Toonami, IMO they're rubbish compared to the original early 80s series.

 Completely agree with you! Fantastic cartoon, reminds me so much of my schooldays. I used to run home, throw my bag in the corner and sit down with my egg & chips to watch Phillip Schofield and Gordon the Gopher introduce MCoG from the broom cupboard!! They WERE the days eh :D

Does any one remember the cheesy computer graphics CBBC used to have? done with a BBC micro I think.

I know this isnt a cartoon, but im sure it qualifies to be included in this thread.

Does anyone know if you can get Grange Hill on DVD or VHS, would be great to see some of the old classic tucker and crew episodes and the later ones with Mr Bronson with his infamous wig and bully bitch Imelda Davies.

Thinking of it now, Grange Hill did have a cartoon in its start up title sequence with the "flying sausage and fork"

There's been a grown up version of GH on for years, Eastenders anyone?!

Most of the original cast of EE were in GH at some point when they were kids.

Do you remember Superted, Bananaman & Raggy Dolls.

Also while we're at it what about:

Jossies Giants

Supergran - stand back iceman, spiderman, superman, batman & robin too.

Moonmins - atmospheric felt puppets

Round the twist was really funny too on CITV.

Does anyone else remember this thing that was on BBC2 at 6.00pm in the early 80's called "The Adventure Game"? Minor celebs doing silly puzzles on BBC Micros, talking plants, silly money with symbols on it and crossing 'The Vortex'?

Everyone at work thinks I'm making it up! Surely I can't be the only person to have watched this.

It was like a forerunner of Knightmare!

Lestat
04-06-2004, 09:56
I remember it!! and I loved it, it was so weird yet so brilliant. Wasn't it abit like the Crystal Maze but with ZX81 graphics?

I remember the hexagonal stepping stones they had to cross at the end and if they got a question wrong they fell off into space or something. There was also a computer voice which used to say 'Gronda' alot...think this is the one.

sarah_d
04-06-2004, 11:28
Knightmare used to scare me as i thought people really disappeared if they got a question wrong when they were on the stepping stones.:o

I've seen Chocky series one and two on dvd for sale at Virgin in fargate, but I though they were a tad expensive at £15 each.

If im right wasnt chocky a blue light thing that spoke to a kid called Mathew ....... "Maaaaathew" or something like it used to say in a female voice.

Sorry to be geeky but the graphics on The Adventure Game were done with a BBC micro, you know the crappy 32k thing they had in all schools in the 80's. As for the ZX81 it only had black and white graphics.

And obviously the Transformers (robots in disguise)....

I loved that show so much that for one birthday my cakes was shaped and coloured like the big green machine herself.

Happy, happy days!

Maybe a bit off topic - but can you remember the TV show 'The box of delights'? It was on over the Christmas period years ago (BBC).

Also - Trapdoor, King Rollo and Mr. Ben. Trapdoor 'cos it was top all round, King Rollo for the cat (a silent pre-cursor to Stewie in family guy in some ways) and Mr. Ben for never EVER getting the wizard's outfit in the window, damn him.

haha, i know exactly what you mean with the theme tune for Pole Position!!

I remember watching all the others ive left in your quote too, they were all great programmes!! Johnny Briggs used to make me laugh loads!

Used to love Jayce And His Wheeled Warriors too, think that used to be on channel 4, and Mighty Mouse, got that on video somewhere, along with Rainbow Bright! ;) hehe!

Sure kids programmes now are nowhere near the 'classic' status of all these!!! Most of the more recent ones seem horrendous, well thats when ive actually been in at a time kids programmes are on!...very rare!!

Yeah, i remember that theme tune too, always felt a bit sorry for them haha! Being chucked out into the bin! :(

Im a bit bored...and this thread got me 'surfing' so look what ive found...http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/9746/pole/ hehe!

In fact, looking at that, its just reminded me of another cartoon i remember watching, Captain Planet! Even had a game for that on my NES, i was crap at it! Dont think i ever got past the first level!

Always liked Dungeons And Dragons too, can vaguely remember how that ended i think!

Loads of programmes i used to watch keep coming back to me now! I want to watch them all again!

duffman
05-06-2004, 21:09
Wow, excellent find there!

It mentions a few other shows a few of the cast were in like Captain Planet, completely forgot about that one.

Captain Planet, he's a hero, gonna take pollution down to zero, he's the powers magnified, and he's fighting on the planets side....or something like that! Go Planet!!!!

If there's one programme I'd like to see released on DVD it would have to be Knightmare!

I would SO definitely buy a DVD boxset of all 8 seasons of Knightmare, no matter what the cost.

Some of those early 80s drama shows done by BBC Education would be good on DVD as well, stuff like the Boy from Space, and especially Dark Towers! I still have the accompanying book to Dark Towers somewhere.

Remember Wordy? The floating alien thingy?

For all the Knightmare lovers with access to Sky or Blueyonder Cable, they are showing Knightmare Mon - Fri at 7.30pm each night on Challenge TV!

Watching last night reminded me of how thick some of the kids were (or maybe that's just me being harsh from an adult perspective!)

Yeah, they're now reshowing the season 1 episodes after finishing season 8 last week.

Showing that it started rubbish but got better over the years, apart from Pickle from season 5 onwards, god he was annoying.
