Does anyone keep zebra finches?

I got a pair yesterday and I was doing a bit of reading up on them on the 'net. I found an article which told me that they like to sleep in nests (although I haven't found any other reference to it and didn't see anything like a nest in the pet shop) Is this true? If they do, what sort of thing do I use for one, because I am going to have to make one in a hurry!

Any other tips for me on the keeping of finches? They share an indoor cage with a pair of Bengalese finches.

And ............. before anyone says anything, yes, I know I should have done more reading before I got them but I really thought that this time I was going to have a canary!

There must be somebody out there with zebra finches! If I have to make something, I only have a couple of hours left to do it otherwise they will be going to sleep standing up again! :help:

I've been told by the pet shop where I purchased my two Zebra Finches that they prefer to sleep in nests, although my two..have been roosting on the perch so far. Today was day 3..and they are now in and out of the nest quite constantly.

Shame it was.nt a couple week ago i destroy mine every year. They will build a nest in almost anything but do like a closed top box rather than a open nest pan.Bengalese finches should be fine with them. You probably need more than one though to stop Bengalese fighting who wants the nest box.Ask Lotti on here if she can get you a couple.Theres some closed baskets that hang you can get for indoor cages.Id rather have the wooden boxes but thats only my choice.

I've got an oudoor aviary and some sleep huddled together in nest boxes and straw/hay and others would rather stay on the perches. When I checked on them last night there were 4 of them all squeezed inside the oudoor hanging feeder. I don't think they can be that fussed about nests but its nice to provide them with somewhere to snuggle.
:)

Just a thought, remove any eggs if you're not looking for more, they can reproduce like nobodies business ;)

Zebra finches prefer nests. Small wicker or reed baskets may be purchased at most pet shops. A bit of coconut fiber, also available at the pet shop, left at the bottom of the cage allows your birds to line their nest. It must be comfortable for them. They will sleep in the nests if they are there but they will also sleep on their perches as well.
