what do you mean, "changed pc"?

youve reinstalled windows or hardware OR bought a new pc?

if a new pc sounds like theyve been fiddling......dodgy gits

I'm glad I don't use XP. The article linked to mentions "In Windows XP, Active Desktop is always turned on and cannot be disabled."

AxtiveDesktop = ActiveX = vulnerabilities galore:(.

Do you try to avoid all things which use ActiveX? If you're using any version of Windows from 95 onwards, give up now... ActiveX is a very useful technology, but probably not MS's greatest moment by letting people embedd ActiveX objects into webpages.

ActiveDesktop is not a security threat. If you managed to get 'dodgy' code to run in the ActiveDesktop, it's running as a local process, and doesn't need any vulnerabilities to do any dirty work, it'll have whatever access your user account does.

ActiveX is also not a security threat - APART from when it's embedded in Internet Explorer :gag: Hopefully with the release of IE7 soon, most of the FUD about ActiveX can be cleared up...
