i have just bought a new house and the grass is 90 percent moss and weeds,i am wanting to turf it next year but i am wanting to know the best thing to put on it to kill it all off

just loosen the soil and pull them out, it costs nothing is good for your health and the environment my little sister could tell you that.

A very effective methods is to cover it in petrol and light it :) one of my mates dad's tries this, needless to say it worked :)

In that case household bleach contains sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide and sodium chlorate, so a weak solution of bleach?

Oh btw - nothing will grow on the treated area for weeks after if you're thinking of re-turfing :thumbsup:

Hire a turf stripper then give the ground a good forking over and work in some fertilizer, depending on what your soil's like.

The dog thing definitely works. Otherwise if you want to re-turf fairly quickly you can hire a turf cutter for a day, we did that, cut the back breaking bit and was quite quick.If you use a weedkiller you will have to wait for ages and really re-condition the soil for turf to 'take'. Burning will not kill dandelion roots.

Also moss indicates a waterlogged low nitrogen soil.

Aeriate it with a fork, incorporate sand, and use a nitrogen rich fertiliser.

Yes, I agree. Mix with a smigin of charcoal and half a smidgin of sulphur and it will kill anything!

You are spot on Don,I got mine from Pound Land in Meadowhall many months ago,I can't remember how much it was though? It could have been £1:hihi:

Just aerate the soil with a fork, and then buy some lawn sand spread it in the grass, rake the dead moss out and seed over with grass seed, a good hard rake every 6 months and you will save ££££ on new turf

Well, my dad swears by male urine making the grass grow fantastic and green (the smell I hasten to add, on a warm evening... less said the better)!!!:gag::gag:
