View Full Version : England 1-Japan 1
So there we have it. English football is cr@p.
And that's after resorting to diving (Rooney), elbowing, and getting away with it (Rooney), and getting away with a clear penalty shout (Scholes). Plus God knows how many fresh legs through substitution.
90 odd teams to pick from and we insist on fielding the same gaggle of overpaid, under skilled posers.
Time to start using some lower league talent methinks.
Let's face it, most of the teams these players play for are only where they are due to foreign talent.
Thank God for English rugby!!
There isn't any lower league talent..and if there is they all play for Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland. Look how well they're doing.
Personally I prefer to wait and comment after more than just one meaningless friendly
Agent Orange 02-06-2004, 12:45 Argh, not worth stressing about. They are all overpaid with have no pride for their nation. Bring on the England Rugby squad for national pride!!!!!!!!
Errr,...'one win in five, and that was against Lichtenstein!!'
That's a quote from TV last night.
It also seems then that England don't try to win in 'meaningless games'.
Let's face it, England are a crap footballing nation and always have been. We may have invented the game but it doesn't mean we'll ever be any good at it.

You sir, are a true officianado of England's sporting heroes.
Very well said DD.
now, what about womens football? More entertaining and fun, for the girls as well.
Wasn't that women's football I watched last night? Apologies to you ladies, and Japan.

Cheers!!
Wasn't really a big fan of rugby, apart from the odd six nations tournaments, until the rugby world cup. I know what I will watching from now on and it won't be a bunch of spoilt little boys who only care about how much money they going to get.
Now, the idea of women's footy sounds very appealing ;)
Now, why do I want England to do badly in Euro 2004?
Am I unpatriotic? NO.
Do I like the other nations better? NO.
What I want to see is Zidane, Henry etc turn on the style and wipe the smug, self-righteous expressions of the England primadonnas' faces.
I want to see the 'I'm only patriotic where football's concerned, and I can get England a bad name abroad' supporters shot down in flames.
I want to see how many of these England flags stay up when England lose embarrassingly.
I want the Rugby World Cup to come round again!!
Ned Ludd 02-06-2004, 15:39 I'm not sure why everyone was so upset at the thought that Sven was talking to Chelsea. He should get back to running his bookshops.
Under his guidance England play without style, confidence and passion. They are timid, unadventurous and boring.
A better manager could do well with the same squad of players.
Prepare to be bored even when they win
does that mean there crap then, surley not what about our no 1 national hero david beckham,90 000 grand a week. michael i sound like a robot owen, a defence thats got more leaks than mi5. my favourate tho was our first choice midfield , beckham , gerrard, scholes and lampard , this bunch apparently are going 2 stop france. they must be ****ting themselves after watching japan walk thro them with ease , so thats our team god help us.
Once again we see multiple subs used. Personally I don't see the point in this.
the reason he did it was because they were playing crap and by bringing all those subs on it made it appear as tho he was using the game 2 check out certain players. the truth is that was is strongist side and at best it was average, hes trying 2 play a virtually new system in midfield which clearly didnt work a week before a major competion. its certain hell go back 2 a 442 system before next sunday otherwise i think france will kill us off even before we get going.
I'm not confident with James in the net and I fear that I strike force is poor compared to the other top nations. I quite like the midfield but we have always missed that natural left side player.
the problem with the midfield is erikson is trying 2 play a duamond system which means players get pulled out of position and frank lampard looks totaly out of position. if u watched the japan game gerrard ran himself into the ground trying 2 cover the gaps left by beckem ete. beckham was 2 blame 4 the japan goal as he found himself covering 4 a right back who wasnt there and totaly messed up. as for the forwards owen and rooney are supposed 2 be our top strikers, rooney again looked average as he has all season and 4 me hasnt got enough exp 2 be playing in this tournamount. the old story about gazza being thrown in at 1990 world cup and being a sensation dosnt realy apply 2 rooney, gazza was in a differant leagur 2 rooney. as 4 owen im afraid hes the best of an average bunch , he nos it aswell as most of the country. david james in my opinion shoudnt even be playing 4 england, is season at best as been poor but again barring robinson who can he pick, ian walker hasnt even played in an england shirt 4 7 years. lets hope the manager sotrs it out otherwise i think its gunna end before its started.

Thing is, they are 4 of the best midfielders you will find anywhere. it's not their fault, it's the fault of the ridiculous formation ie. diamond which is completely unecessary. Most importantly, Gerrard is totally wasted on the left. The guy is incredible when played centrally, he has been MOM practically every game for Liverpool this season, absolutely immense (says something when Alex Ferguson comes out and admits that a Liverpool player 'is the most influential player in the league, bar none, he is the new Roy Keane') on Sky sports news. So what does Sven do?! Go and play him on the left and totally waste his talents!! Gerrard and Lampard are central midfielders, full stop. Anyone saying these 4 players aren't up to it must be having a giggle. Gerrard and Lampard have both had incredible seasons for their clubs and shown themselves to be amongst the best in europe, and Beckham and Scholesy are both proven top class players. It's the bloody ridiculous tactics which are stifling our best players and it's a complete joke IMO.
