View Full Version : Did you see somebody bump my car near Dore Station?
blueaura 15-06-2006, 10:06 Hi Guys,
Not sure if anyone will be able to help but considering the huge number of members on her from Sheffield it as good a bet as any.
Some one has driven in to my car while it was parked on Ladies Spring Drive (near Dore train station) between the hours of 16:30 and 09:30 yesterday and today respective. The damage was done to the rear drivers side quarter panel. The car is a dark grey Rover 200.
If you have been in the area and saw or heard anything, or even if you live by or use the train station and saw anything please PM me.
Thanks for you help.
Sarah1982 15-06-2006, 12:23 Was your car left on the side of the street blocking a small road like everyones elses round there?
blueaura 15-06-2006, 20:16 To be honest I am one of the poor residents who have to put up with people using the private property around the flats as a free car park when they commute on the train.
I am specifically looking for an orange car, van, lorry or any kind of vehicle… I have my suspicions of who did it but want to know if anyone saw anything.
Spoke to John Bee's body shop today on the way to work and the first thing he said was 'oh dear' :| £700+ I'll make it my mission to get the person who has done this and don't have the guts to own up to it by at least leave a note on my window. It's discraceful, personally I would not be able to sleep at night knowing I had damaged someones property.
lalaland 16-06-2006, 09:49 Is the area not covered by CCTV at all?
I'd have thought being a station it would be, although I know that Dore station is tiny.
Take a look around, if there are cameras anywhere, even on the non-station property, you could ask the owner for help and video evidence is always very good for catching people leaving the scene of an accident :D
Good luck
blueaura 16-06-2006, 10:11 Afraid not, our flats are not covered by CCTV at all, though I think it would be a good investment after this. I have sent a note to everyone who lives in each block and no one seems to have seen anything :( just passers by who may have seen something now.
There was an orange cherry picker type crane carrying some maintenance on the buildings that is my only lead. To be honest I have never seen an orange vehicle around here since I moved in. I checked around all the parking areas near by and did not notice any vehicles with crash damage, nor any orange ones. If you saw anything please let me know.
lalaland 16-06-2006, 10:16 That's a shame, have you checked to make sure that there aren't any in use in teh surrounding areas that may cover your property in view?
CCTV systems are cheap these days, you can get a cheap set up for around £60 if you install it yourself. You could do this and point it at your car.
I hate people that do this, hope you catch them.
(If you do then report it to the Police, it will prove more costly to them instead of just a claim on their insurance it will also be an offence. There will be court costs, possible fine and huge insurance increase for them.
Good hunting ;)

If I were you I would obtain quotes on the cost of repairs to your car from several more reputable firms I am sure that our members will give you some good ideas from whom to obtain some quotes from.
Sadly its the way of the world in these days of the 'I don't give two monkeys about you' type of attitude I personally have experienced the sort of damage you have had to my own car in the past.
blueaura 16-06-2006, 11:07 Result, it was the Cherry Picker the company owner has admitted. :) Very pleased!
lalaland 16-06-2006, 11:22 Did you have to approach them and make them confess or did they come to you??
blueaura 16-06-2006, 11:41 I had to go through several people to get the number of the company, they did not approach me. The excuse was "they thought that the car was parked there because the owner used the train station" lucky people who use the station  . Also "They where planning on leaving a note before they left" and the best one was "they were looking out for the owner to tell them". I had walked up to my car and opened the door while they were looking at me.
lalaland 16-06-2006, 11:56 Hmm.. sounds like an honest company then.
Good result though, well done! :D
I hope you have reported them to the police for leaving the scene of an accident. Stuff like this absolutely makes my blood boil, the company deserves to be taken to the cleaners!

i hope your car gets smashed in!!
Honkytonk 16-06-2006, 13:05 Glad you found out who it was. good for you for not letting it go. And they were there all the time!
i'd like to know who scraped my car at Meadowhall carpark a couple of days ago - all down the side. It was red. Whoever it was was a real "C U Next Tuesday".

Got to admit, I would do the very same (as in report them, not leave the scene).
If they hit your car and the only way you found out was by making the effort to find them and question them, then they are certainly comitting an offence and even if you are happy now you need to stop them doing this to someone else.
lalaland 16-06-2006, 13:09 i hope your car gets smashed in!!
Not a very nice thing to say :o
MickeyBarnes 16-06-2006, 13:22 Sorry.. it just seemed like Sarah1982 was kicking someone whilst they were down. It was almost as if she thought that she deserved to get crashed into!

Yeah, I agree... I had to edit my post in response to that once I had cooled down a bit :D
I reported it to the police as soon as I knew about it yesterday, when I rang them back today to report that I knew who it was also they hadn't even recorded the accident. They don't seem at all bothered to be honest, they won't even send someone round to take a look at the damage and take a full report. What kind of message does this send out. The woman on the phone said they're a bit busy today because of the football yesterday.
they probably arent bothered because its your word against theirs to be fair.
Thought you only had to report to the police if someone got hurt or if there was damage to lamposts etc?
So...let us know who these irresponsible ppl are, then.
they probably arent bothered because its your word against theirs to be fair.
not really.
it's a matter of record that they didn't report an accident as the police will havae no log of that report being made.
And they've now admitted to causing the damage (plus presumably the orange paint left on the car was what lead to the search for an orange vehicle).
So, once it's in writing that they admit liability, there's all the proof that is needed for failure to report an accident and leaving the scene.
blueaura 17-06-2006, 13:55 I won't be naming the responsible party... unless of course they refuse to pay.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress.
lalaland 17-06-2006, 21:05 You are within your right to name them and if you aren't taking legal action against them then I'd consider it to be a fair alternative, let us know who to avoid.
blueaura 18-06-2006, 08:33 The company have admitted to me over the phone with no witnesses, they will not sign a statement declaring liability or going through their insurance so I cannot take legal action because I have no evidence.
I won't be naming them because I want them to pay for the damage which I cannot pay for otherwise. I hope you understand lalaland what might happen if I were to name them. Basically I am stuck to doing things exactly the way they want them done, and I am getting really ****** off with them.
Just met the owner of the company this morning and he seems like a nice guy so I also wouldn't want to give a company a bad name when only one of their workmen is an idiot.
my little brother was parked in greenhill gp carpark. after 10 mins he came back to his car to find the front left light badly damaged - will cost £800+ to get repaired. No cctv or anything. so I think you're quite lucky to find the guys who did it.my brother is not so lucky!
blueaura 18-06-2006, 10:07 Sorry to hear about that jen13kd. I know I'm lucky so far.

the orange paint residue on your car, and corresponding damage on one of their vehicles would be enough to prove it. And if they are going to play awkward, why not find yourself a convenient witness who 'saw' there vehicle cause the damage.
i'll be your witness........ my parents live near dore...hahahaha

It sounds very much like they are making you dance to their tune despite them being in the wrong, this would make me report them even more if I were you, but I respect your decision.
If they continue to mess you about I would tell them that you have recorded a conversation where they admitted the damage and that you are going to report them for leaving the scene of an accident. There are issues about recording conversations without warning, but as you haven't really done so and wouldn't be submitting it as evidence it wouldn't really matter.
Either way, don't let them push you about, they are in the wrong not you.

Go to the police. If they come out and have a look, they can match the paint on the car to that of the cherry picker, and the corresponding damage, as Cyclone mentioned. Now you have a 'suspect' as it were, there's plenty of evidence to prove it was them.
