View Full Version : More Alliance and Leicester branches please!!!
Is anyone else a little annoyed that there is only ONE Alliance and Leicester branch in Sheffield and it's right at the bottom of Fargate where it's near impossible to park?
Whenever I go there to pay in some cash (which isn't really that often to be honest) I always end up having to park down a tight alley behind Natwest, leave my hazards on and run for it to the bank so as not to get tagged by a ticket-hungry traffic warden.
I'm able to pay in cheques at the post office but if ever I'm handed cash for any reason (some people are such fools... ) then I have to go through all this rigmarole of dodging the TW's.
Anyone else have this trouble?
My sentiments exactly!!!!
As an alliance and leicester customer trying to get to Fargate to pay something in is a complete pain as, like you said you can't park. There needs to be more local branches as it's stupid to have just one....
I've never undersootd why there isnt??

Why not bank on the internet?
I am sure they must have this facility.
Mind you I suppose it would be hard to pay in cash via the internet! :hihi:
I totally agree - I also bank with A & L but, something you could try is open an account with another bank, one which has lots of branches in convenient places then set up a transfer. That way you can deposit your money with the easy to reach bank but make best use of the A & Ls superior services.
There is an A&L on the back side of Woodseats but I'm not sure if that's just property services, if not it could be useful on your lunch break.

There used to be two, one was down the Moor on the side road where the Starstore used to be and one on Church St I think but they amalgamated and went down to the one piddly branch further down.

Were you not aware of this...?
"At Post OfficeŽ branches
You can pay cheques and cash into your account at any Post OfficeŽ branch in the UK. To pay in cash, simply hand your card and cash to a member of staff at the counter. Cash will be credited to your account on the same day. To pay in a cheque just fill in a deposit slip, write your account number on the back of the cheque and hand it over, sealed in a deposit envelope"
silverknight 13-06-2006, 20:53 As greybeard mentions why not use the A&L girobank service at the Post Office and set up Direct Debits to better paying interest accounts of A&L other banking services!
I never understand complaints like this........
Have you not considered that it might not be economically viable for them to open up a branch somewhere else?
If it causes such a hasstle for you, change banks (its not as much of a pain as you'll think)
If you don't want to change banks, well thats precisely the reason why its not economical for them to open more branches.
I've just done it.....I now do a lot of internet banking, so I changed to a bank with an internet banking facility I liked the most.....that would be Nationwide for me

A&L maintain the no-cost Post Office deposit facility specifically to compensate for their lack of branches. Apart from depositing cash and cheques virtually all other transactions can be carried out on-line.
Actually they inherited the system from when they absorbed National Girobank.
I also do alot of internet banking but I wasn't aware that I could pay cash into the Post Office as well as cheques. Thanks for that.
I won't be changing banks though as I've just joined A&L and am quite happy with their service despite the lack of branches. It's so nice to call up their helpline and know that my call hasn't gone via India or China and that I'm going to hear an english person on the other end. :D
