View Full Version : Sheffield Jeet Kune Do
Zatoichi 13-06-2006, 17:13 I popped in to have a look round the Sheffield Martial Arts center and have a word with Mark, Unfortunately he is in the USA. I watched a bit of the session and it looked like a good workout.
Has anybody on here trained there and had good or bad experiences ?
LordChaverly 13-06-2006, 17:38 I liked the film Zatoichi - you were not really blind were you? :)

I can honestly say that he is a gentleman and a scholar! One of the best Martial Artists i've ever had the priviledge to train with. he certainly knows his stuff and knows how to make it work His senior students are more than capable as he doesn't give out grades lightly, and he holds no predudices towards other styles.
Go check out a class or three its definatly worth it.

Crayfish 16-06-2006, 10:57 I went down to the Sheffield Martials Arts Centre last night and had a great time - it's a nice space to train in and a friendly bunch of people. The training ethos also matches mine quite well, being accepting of other styles and including aspects from all realms of combat, from what I could see. I'll try and make it down regularly on Thursday nights!
Zatoichi 16-06-2006, 11:02 Hi Crayfish, I would be grateful if you could tell me what the session consisted of ?
Crayfish 16-06-2006, 11:28 The session I attended, after the warm up (which I missed most of as it took me about 20 minutes to find the centre once I was in the area!) and stretch (static) was almost entirely pad work, drilling muay thai style combinations e.g. rear round kick-hook-cross-switch kick on thai pads and some more specialised exercises with focus mitts, blocking or dodging blows and replying with combinations.
It sounds fairly varied though from one session to the next, next week they mentioned that we might be using sticks and doing some sparring, which I got the impression is practised just a step or two below full contact as a guideline. Also mentioned grappling and some groundwork, though the emphasis seemed more on stand up.
Davemantis 16-06-2006, 15:03 I have a student that has started training there this week he is finding it brill he says he’s looking forward to his next session
Crayfish glad you enjoyed the training, i will be back teaching soon, got another week of classes yet here in the States,
Dave thanks for putting your student in touch with me, it's nice when instructors let students train with other people, see you soon

chefkicker 18-06-2006, 10:41 Thats right guys, I agree with you.
Mark does a very good session. I have paid visits once in a while and I first trained with Mark in the mid 90's when I had just finished university.
Great classes!
Id like Mark even more if he would put fighters in the ring.
