View Full Version : 22 and moving to Sheffield
jan_rogowski 04-06-2003, 16:02 Hi there. I'm in need of some help as I have 3 weeks until I start a new job based in Sheffield city centre and I have nowhere to live! I'm a postgrad and shall be moving down all on my own (aahhh) so I'd like somewhere with nightlife and that will be populated with young beautiful people. I've heard that crookes, broomhill and ecclesall are places to consider but any advice (or an offer of residence) would be appreciated.
The areas you've suggested are spot on. Perhaps you could try getting into a shared house.
Hi, I'm also moving to Sheffield in July, and I'm 21, so nearly your age, and it is scary! But luckily I know people here, which helps. I am no longer a student but I have found loads of people looking for housemates on the accomodation noticeboard inside the student union.
It seems to be cheap to live here, I found one house for £33 a week, and it had nothing wrong with it! I think I'm going to move in near ecceshall, it seems to be nice round there. good luck :D
Hi, im 22, finishing uni at the end of this week and starting work at the end of the month in Sheffield. as of yet i haven't found anywhere (been stuck with my final exams!), but i'd ideally like to share a nice 2 bed apartment with another similar aged professional. anybody in the same position?

Jan,
Yep - Broomhill, Crookes and Ecclesall are all nice and handy for the city centre. I live in Broomhill and work virtually next door to the Cathedral and walk in each day. You might also want to have a look Hillsborough way as the tram is excellent and the prices are a bit cheaper.
Sounds very non-techy, but one of your best bets might be to come visit for a day and look in all the newsagent windows. In Broomhill and Crookes they are chocca with postcards of people wanting to rent houses/rooms.

Ecclesall/Hunters Bar is a superb place to live - along with Broomhill, Crookes, etc. They're popular areas with students/young professionals, so there's plenty going on.
Ecclesall road has loads of news agents, etc. with ads for rooms, and chances are you'll find some decent places at this time of year.
Good luck to you all who are moving to Sheffield - hope it all goes smoothly
I'm in exactly the same position.
I'm a 23 year old professional male looking for a flat to share in the South or West side of Sheffield - Hunters Bar / Ecclesall road areas are what I'm looking for oto.
If anyone is wishing to share, or can help or has any advice on where I might be best to look please email me on:

Thanks
PaulTansley 28-06-2003, 16:27 Someone on this forum was looking for a flat mate this week, can,t remember there name but its worth looking for on this section of the forum.
UPDATE..
Notaclue is the person to contact. The thread is Wheres my home.
starfish 29-06-2003, 22:25 The areas mentioned - crookes, broomhill, ecclesall, are good areas but are some of the most expensive in Sheffield for buying or renting. Consider Sharrow (about 1/2 mile from city centre) Woodseats or Hillsborough, better value and just as lively.
DaBouncer 30-06-2003, 10:22 Sharrow? I'd rather live on the street! It has a VERY high crime rate in that area. Why not suggest Broomhall too while you're there? Again i'd rather live on the street.
Woodseats is very popular these days... recommended!
Hillsborough.... a little far out I reckon!
You could also try Meersbrook!

madaseggs 15-07-2003, 21:26 I know a *very* nice place (just been done up) near Hunters Bar (within walking distance of the centre and plenty of students/pubs/restaurants). My mate (22) lives there and there are 2 bedrooms spare. Rent is £300 a month.
Contact me if you want me to find out a phone number.

Why bring up a thread 7 years old!?

Paul2412 27-09-2010, 08:27 This thread has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Sharrow was getting slated in 2003 for its high crime rate...
rubydazzler 17-11-2010, 23:31 The OP never posted again, what did you say to upset him?
