I've done a fair amount of radio over the years and I can't stand to listen to my own voice - I doubt you sound as 'broad' as you think you do!

Well done!

I used to DJ back in the day and I must have been the quietest DJ on the planet, due to despising the sounds of my own voice. Played lots of music though, must have been good for someone.

Fox, regretfully I haven't heard your broadcast - will it be aired later or was it 'live'?

Anyway - re/ your voice.
Be comforted that if you were speaking with a plummy accent Radio Sheffield's target audience would have 'turned off' & not took in what you were saying.

I'm sure that people locally will respond positively to a local accent more.

I hope anyway

I hate listening to myself on my outgoing Voicemail message at work which is why Idon't change it even for holidays, and even though I realise that that is what people hear and is what I actually sound like. Someone actually said I sounded really positive and pro-active ... what he didn't realise was that I did numerous re-recordings deliberately trying to get the pitch of my voice higher as I think Isound quite deep and nasal - which I probably don't to other people.

I've done Radio, I've done TV, I've worked on a million stages up and down the country, and I still hate the sound of my voice....

I even hate my voicemail messages! (giggles @ Bobsgirl, don't we all record it several times? :hihi:)

I now just concentrate on what I'm saying rather than worrying about the voice itself. Although I have to say, editing can be a marvellous thing! :)

Unfortunately, I don't always get the chance to be edited... :-/

What is this interview anyway, and can we hear it? It's funny how we see ourselves differently to how others see us. Maybe we can help put your mind at rest? :)
