I am off to a friends house tonight to sort out the ol' internet connection.
As i went online to explore common problems with Freeserve, i discovered that its now owned by orange.
Is anybody on Freeserve, and did it cause any problems when orange took it over?
Cheers

Orange have owned it for ages, it is a brand name change for marketing purposes.
I'm with wanadoo- no problems at the moment
Now since I am a pay as you go orange customer and I use their wanadoo wireless talk broadband package- I would like some discounts for being a loyal orange and wanadoo customer I reckon
I'll have to find out!

Could it be that your friend has just been upgraded to 8meg, and their modem isn't compatible, or that it's having the usual upgrade teething problems?
We were with freeserve for ages with no problems, then it bacame wanadoo and things still stayed ok....now as you say we're orange.....been a bit slow at times and keep getting the message come up saying its encountered problems and has to close down......it does'nt......
Hope its just teething problems but too soon to say yet really.:(

Yes, I've also had issues with Internet Explorer encountering problems and having to close ever since Wanadoo went Orange. It seems to be most often when I first open the Orange page every day, and then the second and subsequent times it seems OK. I don't know whether there's something on the page that IE doesn't like, or whether there's been some sneaky upgrade to IE that's made it malfunction. The Orange site seems fine in Firefox.

Orange was a fantastic company when it was owned by hutchison telecom. It practically revolutionised mobile phones as we know them today, digital technology/per second billing etc.I went from a vodafone analogue mobile to orange more or less when they launched,Think it was about 1993.The coverage was quite poor at that time but improved on a weekly basis. The calls were very cheep compared to other operaters and to be honest blew the others out of the water.Eventually in my opinion nothing could match their value and I was an avid orange user.Their coverage became spot on and I was very much a for life orange customer. But then in about 1999 the company got took over by a french telecomunications company and to say the least after they had made a few changes I dont use them anymore.Whether it will make any difference to broadband users I dont know but I guarantee I wont be using the company anymore..
Im with Orange (wanadoo). Havent had any problems at all for the last 18, then this week it's a right pain! Drops connection straight away, modem cant detect a ringtone, try reconnecting and works for while then freezes.
Usually sorts itself out after I restart.
