I am totaly shocked at what I have seen today..I live on a cul-de-sac, its good for the kids as it means there is a limited amout of traffic and they can safely play footie and stuff.my eldest is 9 so he is at an age where he likes to hang around with the other kids his age.. although I like to keep an eye on them. The people next door to me have stated to boot the kids out to play with all the older ones, they are totally unsupervised by thier own parents and they are about 5 and 3. the youngest one was swinging around a rather large kitchen knife in the street today not just any old knife it was a six inch butchers knife of the very sharpest varity. obviusly as soon as it was noticed there was a big hooharr on the street as the child in question was waving it at another 5 year old. when I took the knife back to next door there was no reaction from the kids mom when I gave her the kinfe back just a pathetic "I had no idea". she shouted the kids in but they were out booting a ball at any car they could a few hours later.. Is it me or are these childern too young to play out unsupervised any advise as to what to do would be aperciated cos I am getting concerned that somthing awfull will happen to them..

A little visit from the Police Community Safety Officer might be a good idea. I would make a discrete call to your local station - no-one will know who phoned them.

Good Idea Tony
I wouldn't waste any time in making the call either, the sooner you put this to bed the better.

your not over exagerrating, a 5 year old had a 6 inch kitchen knife and the mother knew nothing about it.

Christ, i think i had a 1.5 inch fruit knife at that age, i remember asking the "old guy" uncle arthur (to every kid on the street) to sharpen it for me.

No, no over exagerrating.. and it was the three year old that had the knife..But it gets better shes started to let the baby on to the front garden in its baby walker but she very rarely comes out to supervise the older kids keep running in and out and leaving the gate open.I have had to close the gate once or twice to prevent her escaping onto the road.. honestly its very worrying
