Would you let your boss speak to you as he does to them in his restaurant.
OK they will earn a fortune from that programme but in reality would you put up with him, or chin him.
My view is that if my wages were over 40k then maybe i could put up with it and not take it personally.

He is this countrys top chef without a doubt and he puts me in stitches at the way he treats his chefs but in the real world i reckon i could grit my teeth for a super high wage.

Hi,

I would say that's easier said than done. There is only so much people can take & not everyone would want to take constant abuse like that. Money or no money. everyone has their limits.

But if you did earn loads of cash you would give it a good go.

He may be nasty and abusive, but it is only in the heat of food production when he is shouting at people. After the service has finished,he has quiet words with people, and reassures them that they are good at what they do.In such a high pressure job as being the best chef in the country everything has to be perfect, because everyone wants him to fall on his sword.

If my reputation was on the line,I would probbly be the same

No matter what you earn, unless it was good for your career, or you couldn't earn the same elsewhere then you wouldn't put up with it.

The way he speaks to people is no different to the way most head chefs talk to their staff. I know this because I used to work in a hotel.

i think he figured out he was being a bit hard when Amanda Barrie nearly hit him.

Youll notice though that hes only like that to the ones who are crap at their job. The ones who keep their heads down, work hard, and get things right dont get the level of abuse that the others get. As Sidla says, all head chefs are the same. Its their way of getting the best out of their team. And its not only chefs who do it. What about the armed forces? The officers treat new recruits in much the same way.

Gordon Ramsay can be this way. All his staff in his restaurants have approached him for thier jobs not the other way around. The people that work for him know his terms before they even ask for employment.

I was a Chef and in the early days had Salads thrown back at me and the like, plus lots of swearing. You notice hes swearing in the language hes using NOT swearing at them.

Something interseting to remember is when he walked out on the Head Chef's job he held at a place in London whos name i can't remember, 95% of the staff left with him to work in his place he was setting up. IU think this says a lot.

His ex-employers tried and failed to sue him for "poaching" the staff.

He makes me giggle with some of the comments he makes.

I wonder how much of his response is for camera or perhaps he's like that all of the time.

I suppose he's just as rude and bullying to his real kitchen staff who, unlike the celebs on Hell's kitchen, won't earn a fortun from it.
