Hi all
After losing my very much loved dog recently the house seems so empty. Given a change in circumstances too Im not sure that a dog would be a good idea for various reasons as much as Id like one! However cats seem much more independent and am contemplating kitten/cat ownership! Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom? Do's and donts? advice on kittens vs rescue cat!!!! any advice gratefully received

Cats are ace. I think a rescue/older cat is a good idea because it has already developed its own personality and you know what you are getting. Sure, kittens are cute but in a year or two it'll be grown up anyway.

Kitten all the way, especially if ypu have had a dog for such a long time as it will develope a much stronger bond with you from a kitten. I have a persian cat and he is great.

the reason I have caution with a rescue cat is that you dont know what you are getting - ive looked at some of the websites and some dont know how they are with children ( I have an 8 year old although pretty grown up can be boisterous at times!)

ok ive spoken to some people about rescue cats and kittens and think on reflection a kitten is the best way forward and would suit me as Im off work at the moment so got loads of time to spend with it! Does anyone have any kittens needing a very loving and very spoilt home?!?!?

Thanks for the offers guys but Im now sorted with a beautiful 8 week old kitten, pure black with stunning blue eyes! Called him rascal as he seems to be a wee bit on the mischievous side!!!!

Congratulation on adopting Rascal, he sounds adorable.

Just a bit of advice, please consider buying/adopting a second kitten/cat to keep Rascal company especially if you intend to go back to work again. Kittens crave feline company and are much better behaved if they have a friend to play with.

Thanks

Unless they're sisters :| We've got two sisters who loved each other as kits but one day they decided they hated each other's guts and the only time you see them together is if they're fighting with the tom cat that comes round or if they're waiting for food.
