Yo!

As you may or may not know- I will be getting married next year in june and we will be going to the the US and Canada for our honeymoon, we were due to have the wedding in sheffield at the registry office but we now fancy getting married in NY or at Niagara Falls.

So I would like to ask - we want just a basic ceremony, nothing flash or fancy as we both dont believe in all the religious claptrap, and I wondered if anyone else on here had done the same and got wed in the big apple or Niagara?

What paperwork would we need to take across and how much is it likely to cost us does anyone know please?

Thanks everyone
Have a nice afternoon too!

Check out most companies like Virgin and look at their weddings abroad section. Even if you dont want book through them, it will be worth having a look and getting some useful information with regards to what documents you require and how much it may cost. Hope this helps!!

My Dad got re-married in Newport, Rhode Island a couple of years ago. The jsutice of the peace charged $200 for a twenty minute ceremony in the beautiful town hall there. Not sure what sort of paperwork they needed but I would of thought that at least a passport was needed. Think he had to take his divorce certificate along too.

Sounds brilliant, and it sounds like something that we would both like.
Thanks for that.

just a thought, but have you been to niagara before? you may find it a little disappointing (nice to visit, but i wouldn't want one of my major life events to happen there...touristy, even on the canadian side). nice bits of park nearby though, so if you could get a bit cordoned off it could be rather pleasant...

You might have to give yourself a few extra days, as some States require a blood test before giving you the marriage license.

Also take the Helicopter ride over the falls, it's a must see.
