I was out walking in the Loxley area today and noticed the derelict, half standing building, which used to be the 'Loxley Country Club'. Does anyone know why it closed or became such a mess. It seems a shame that it's left half demolished in such a pretty area, it now looks an eye sore. Also can anyone remember what it was like in it's hay day.

Going up the hill near the golf club? I didn't know it had closed. That must be quite recent.

Funny that I was walking that way last weekend.. and thought the same thing its been closed now for quite a few years.. I think that the distance from bus routes ect got to it in the end they used to have discos on the weekends but i think it was mainly weddings and stuff.. not sure when it got burned down though that was probably the local kids

I do not know the details, but if this is the property I think it is then it is not a simple story. I believe that it's demise is connected somehow with problems about planning pemission, and I think that it would have had to have been demolished anyway.

Perhaps someone out there knows more than I do about this.

It actually burned down a few years ago, and as far as I'm aware it was an accident.

Re the planning permission, the rumour was that when it was first submitted, the council though it was Pine Grove Country club that was applying and so granted it without even looking.

There is still Golf driving range up there and a nine hole course if it's still in use.

the owner fired it for the insurance, he also once threatened my mate with a shotgun in safeway in broad daylight.

He was a nutter

*allegedly obviously* for legal reasons
