I think there's only one Chinese Take-away on Ecclesall Rd. I believe that it's called the "New Zing Vaa" but it's quite far up Ecclesall Rd...

I think you'll find that Sheffield's Chinese food central will be London Rd. Whereas Ecclesall Rd has loads of western restaurants.

The New Zing Vaa is very good. There is also the China Garden which is cheaper but not so good. Both are up the hill from Hunters Bar. I believe the same people own the New Zing Vaa and East One in town.

the New Zing Vaa is meant to be nice..

We order from Red Lion quite a lot - The Special Satay Chow Mein is nice from there..

New Zing Vaa is excellent.

Further afield, but even better in my opinion, is Kin's Kitchen on the ring road at Gleadless Townend.

Hmm, ages since I had a good Chinese. Must try to get one in over the bank holiday.

Was very disappointed with the New Zing Vaa. Takeaway was dire. My favourite is now Dim Sum on London Road. Tasty food you can rely on. Would go so far as to say it's the best Chinese takeaway food anywhere I've been. It's always full of Chinese families eating in which is usually a good sign of authentic food.:)

Hi all
by far the best Chinese in Sheffield by far is at 241 Abbeydale Rd, it's called the New Hing Lung.
Only a small place with a yellow facade!
It's always busy & you don't get your food served in those minature plastic trays as you do on Ecclesall rd!. This is to do with the ground rent!, You get less on Ecclesall rd & Abbeydale rd is the Chinse community of Sheffield! You get the good old big Tin foil dishes that hold loads! & better quality. If you order Prawn Crackers, you get a carrier bag full! Top place!

we had an absolutely horrible chinese from there one new year, ordered chinese curry and a chicken with ginger and spring onion and it looked, to put it plainly, like dog mess. it tasted like it too, there was no difference between the two, eugh it was horrible.
and new zing vaa on ecclesall road uses tin foil containers too, lol.

I would recommend Golden Lee on London Road, they deliver to us on Ecclesall Rd. You also get a carrier bag full of prawn crackers, free if you spend over £11.

The house noodles come in a massive dish.
Other meals are in the microwave dish size clear plastic tubs. Taste good though.

The best sit-down chinese is tim po moor at the end of London Road. The old Tin po further up have relocated here. Nothing fancy to look at (fish tank is abit of a horror) but the service is very friendly and the food is excellent. They try not to use MSG, although my mate says the crispy fried chicken has it in the coating (he is V sensitive to it).

Best of all it won't break the bank - main dishes are all under £7 and you can bring your own booze - they are not fussy you can have wine or beer.

Having grown up in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield I reckon to have a fair idea of how good a chinese takeaway is when I have one - there are half a dozen or so within a stones throw of each other and quite simply they have to be good or everyone goes in the one down the road.

Moving to live in Bakewell eight years ago made me realise just how spoiled I had been during my formative takeaway years in Hillsborough as my new local offerings were, well...crap. So, my search began.....

and with the unneccessary waffle above in mind, I can state that WITHOUT DOUBT by far the best chinese takeway in Sheffield is HING LUNG on Abbeydale road (next to Thresher) - quite simply the freshest, finest and best value takeaway I have ever known.

Come on.... It must be good if I drive all the way from Bakewell for christ's sake !

p.s. Yes it is still warm when I get home !

Been to the china cafe a few times and have raved about it too everyone I know. Not fancy or out, wouldnt go there on a first date but would go to fill my face with yummie, clean, freshly cooked chineese food. Also has the bonus of bein real cheap.

Always loadsa gooks eatin in there as well. Pretty good sign.

Get there and give it a go, you wont be disapointed.
