Hi there

wondered if anyone knew of any kennels (if thats what you call them) for bunny rabbits?

Sure there must be some kind of kennel boarding service for small animals and wondered if anyone knew of any!

Thanks

Ally

This is a tricky one... I always find it hard to board my bunny, cause most normal kennels and catteries don't cater for rabbits.

If you have a vet who you use regularly for vaccinations and stuff, they might be able to help. Some vets do board their clients pets, but usually only their clients pets, not randoms who have never been to them for treatment!

You could also try looking on the noticeboards in vets' surgeries, cause you should find plenty of ads for pet sitters, dog walkers and the like.

Just saw this on another thread, might be useful, isn't connected to me by the way so i don't have any more info, posted under doggie aupair service

My company is called Walkies and i am currently taking bookings for the Summer and beyond for 2006. Primarily i dog sit for dogs, but will consider other animals.

Walkies is a dog au-pair service that looks after dogs whilst their owners are away on holiday so as to avoid upsetting the dogs when normally put into a dog kennel. This way the dog gets to stay in the comfort of its own home and will not be caused any undue stress.

So, if you are planning a holiday this summer and was considering putting your dog into kennels please send me an email and we can discuss what Walkies can do.
References are available and my rates are very compeititve.

Thanks

The pet shop at Gleadless Townend board animals, I've seen guinea pigs being boarded so almost certain that they would take rabbits as well. They are very good and I would reccomend then 110%

I called the small animal holiday home place who were full up but they put me in touch with another place.

So for further info the number is 2550308 and its Tina and Dave.

Obvioulsy haven't taken bunnies there yet so can't recommend or otherwise but they sounded very friendly and its only £2.50 per night for both of them and they have runs as well. I'll let people know what it was like once i'm back from holls

We took our house rabbits to tina and dave and they were brilliant. Rabbits loved it. We also came home with 2 baby rabbits (husband couldnt resist them) Will be using them again. They are not doing it to make money they do it for the love of the animals. Would highly reccommend

VHD and myxomatosis

Can I suggest that people have their rabbits vaccinated against VHD and myxomatosis before they are boarded anywhere. However not immediately before they go on holiday because the jabs lower the rabbits immune system for a short time after the vaccine is administered.

Whilst I would expect most people who board rabbits to ask for proof that animals have been vaccinated, ultimately it is in your rabbits interest vaccinations are up to date. Rabbits in close proximity to other rabbits have a higher risk of contracting one of these terrible diseases. In this case prevention is better than cure, because VHD is fatal, and myxomatosis (if caught in time) requires very intense nursing. :(

Of course, your rabbit(s) should always be up to date on both VHD and myxomatosis. The frequency of booster jabs is determined by how prevalent the disease is in your locality. Your vet will advise.

Sorry to always seem like the bearer of bad news where rabbits are concerned. Rabbit are really great pets and companions, but, as with all pets, need looking after properly.

I agree entirely grinderbloke! All rabbit owners should have their pet vaccinated against vhd & and myxomatosis . Any reputable boarder will insist on seeing the pets vaccination record before boarding. If they don't, then personally I would take your pet to board elsewhere.

Viral Haemorrhagic Disease. It’s a deadly disease that any rabbit can catch, and it kills most of those that get it.

Myxomatosis is a condition characterized by the presence of myxomas in the body; specifically : a severe disease of rabbits that is caused by a poxvirus (genus Leporipoxvirus),

My dwarf lop bunny has just been to stay @ waggyTails for 2 weeks , before he went in he was losing weight and not eating as well as he did, I was really pleased to find that when i came home he's gained weight. His teeth were growing the wrong way, Tina who runs the bunnies boarding soon picked up on it , she took him to the vet, gained treatment , she placed him on a great diet , hes in really good condition .
So if you want to know more please Pm me. I would recommend this place above anywhere we have ever been, The care Flopsy reiceved has been above and beyond the call of duty, if i had known more about my rabbit I would have spotted what was wrong.
Also my rabbit has spent most days out of his hutch which is more than i can give him here, although we do have a run.
Since coming home he seems to be sad and missing his friends so i know he's had a great time there.
so to anyone please consider using this place, Waggy Tails is a happy, loving place for animals.

I can also recommend Waggytails. Tina has looked after Mr Bo Jangles many times and now will be looking after his daughter Truffle too. Everytime I pick him up after we've been away he looks a bit sad when he gets home so I know he must have had a lovely time there!
