I was told that ballot papers would be sent out first class post on Tues May 25 by the elections office. After saying that I heard it on the radio Monday morning that they had been sent out already.

Has anybody got theirs yet as I haven't?

First class traditionally guaranteed next day delivery, not any more.

Anybody got more than one or not had one delivered at all.

I have misgivings about this whole postal vote thing and would be interested in anybody's experience.

It is planned to send them out over 3 days starting with Tuesday. So you can expect them anytime up to Friday, or Saturday at the latest.

I don't think we've had one yet either.... Personally I wouldn't care if they got lost in the post, I don't vote cos I hate all Politicians equally.

Got mine today.

Once you have actually made your choices you have to:

put your ballot papers in envelope A, seal envelope A and place in Envelope B,
get a Declaration of Identity signed by someone who knows you and insert in Envelope B, in front of the ballot papers and with the barcode showing through the window.

A lot of people are going to find the above procedure so confusing they will either not vote or make a complete hash of it and have their vote disqualified.

First Class does not guarantee next day delivery, their aim is to try and deliver it next day.
Next day guaranteed delivery comes at a cost

My normal post doesn't arrive til about 2.30 and sometimes even later so with all the extra post generated by the election I reckon my post will be arriving about 10pm

I received mine today and as you say the procedure is quite confusing. I'm fairly intelligent, but it took me a while to work out what to do. I'm sure a lot of people just won't bother to return it. Why on earth do they have to make things so complicated?

This is exactly the point that I've been making for ages now. I'm sure that you are honest but many people aren't. If you used the ballot paper and falsely witnessed it it would never ever get picked up. Yes I know that it's illegal to do so, but so are many other activities which are carried out daily.

It all spells FIDDLE FIDDLE FIDDLE.

Not got mine yet.

Was on the news last night that Sheffield has made a cock up of sending papers in about 5 wards (now thats a surprise).

Have been sending out wrong ballot papers ie for different wards and brought to their attention by members of the public. They would have been totally oblivious to it otherwise. Somehow I don't think that this election is going to be an accuarate portrayal of public opinion.

So if your ballot paper ever arrives check that they have sent you the right one.

To be fair Sheffield isn't the only Council incapable of running an election.

250,000 ballot papers have had to be destroyed in the NW because of numerous printing errors.

The post office are failing to deliver election leaflets before the ballot papers in some areas as per the Green Party ones. So people are voting without knowing anything about the candidates.

Post office have not delivered all ballott papers by today as promised.

C**K UP or what.

The election is run by The Electoral Office. The papers involved are around 100 and the reason for errors is down to the boundary changes. The real reason for the c*ck up is the delay brought about by the Arse of Lords holding up the vote to allow the postal ballots, imo.

PS The last date for delivery of ballot papers to the electorate is Tuesday.

Yes the election is run by the Electoral Office who all happen to be Council employees as you know.

Elections can be won and lost on a lot less than 100 votes. These are the ones that the electoral office know about. I suspect that there will be more comes to light.

You said in a previous post that on this thread that papers should arrive by Friday ie today or to quote you Saturday at the latest.

There is talk now of legal action being brought by some political parties for all of this.

There does seem to be some confusion over when the last date is. The BBC site now says that the last date that the ballot papers should be received by Royal Mail is 1st June which means they may still be being sent out next week.

What a fluid situation.:loopy:

I received my voting papers today. They don't seem that complicated to me, but I can see a lot of people having difficulty filling them in correctly because there are a lot of things people could do wrong... ie you have to put papers in 2 envelopes and make sure you put the correct envelope inside the other and make sure a barcode shows etc! The old fashioned way of voting was much easier!

I also received 7 adverts for the different parties today... some of which made interesting reading before putting in the bin!

Earlier in the thread I said that mine and me Mum's ballot papers came the day before yesterday, this morning Dad's arrived...

What kind of silliness is this?! Is it not the case that the ballot papers for ALL occupants of any given address should come on the same day?!

Stupid bloody silly postal service... And they're back in teh black?! WTF?!
