We've been looking after my sister's 3 ferrets since October and been letting them trash the house lol... she took them back a few weeks ago!

I saw one on Barnsley Road on Sunday morning. Not sure if it was an escaped pet, but I have seen it before.

I have always wanted a ferret, but my OH is not convinced, despite liking other mustelidae like otters, badgers, weasels and pinemartens etc.

She needs to meet some fancy ferrets, rather than the more 'robust' working variety.

A while ago I saw a couple of girls walking a ferret on a leash - of course it needed a special leash to stay on the wriggly lil beastie!!!!

My sister takes her ferrets for walks on leads. Very boring though... they tend to move about .000001 miles per hour as they insist on stopping to sniff and investigate every blade of grass!

Tell me about it...you walk a step, wait for ferret to catch up, walk another step then go back because ferret has decided to go backwards....

not got one myself but my friend has two. he works away for long periods of time & they are company for him. he brings them home sometimes and i enjoy playing with them just as i enjoy playing with my dog. my dog likes them too now they've stoped biting her nose. she is a pittbull staffy cross and a rally big bosterous dog that has learnt to tolerate ferrets and play with them gentally.

I was watching a footy game at Woodhouse Mill last year when I saw this guy walking two ferrets on leads around the rec. Looked surreal amongst all the dog owners!

I wouldn't dare walk our ferrets with dogs around, one got attacked last year and my sister also had to have stiches. Nasty dogs.

On the other hand, our cats are petrified of them!

I saw someone with a ferret on the bus last night. I've lived in Yorkshire 10 years and its the first one I've seen I think - I thought it was the traditional Yorkshire pet!

Yes I have one it's called the wife, only joking my brother has a couple and uses them when he goes hunting with the dogs.
Tells me they are great at flushing out the prey.

perfect for rabbits, great for hunting with harris hawks.

Working ferrets tend to be from different stock to fancy ferrets, who are bred for their coats and temperaments.

It is, but you don't see them too often because we all keep them down our trousers.

Let me tell you, it can get very uncomfortable taking the whippets for a walk in a pair of clogs with a couple of ferrets running amok down your trollies.

I knew someone who had a couple of ferrets... Cute little things but can be vicious too :?

He used to bring them over to my parents house all the time on their leads... funny little things they were :)

They have to be handled right or you will get a nast bite, they also tend to stink a little which puts me off right away.
Still they are rather cute dont you think?

I had a ferret when i was about 14.
Used to go catching rabbits (would not dream of doing it now)
They will bite you and not let go, they also smell like the inside of a taxi drivers glove.

I used to have six ferretts. They were fantastic, me and my brother used to spend a day out with them looking for rabbits - they're fantastic pets and full of character.

Ours were very much loved members of the family until some complete s*** cut the wire mesh on their run and they all escaped!!

So they obviously got a lot out of being a member of the family. They liked it so much they bolted the moment they were given half a chance!

Suppose it shows that even though we considered them members of the family they are predators at heart. Although they had a cosy hutch and a spacious run they'd rather be out hunting stuff and doing what comes natrually. We used them to hunt with so I imagine that reinforced their instincts somewhat.

No, I do not possess a ferret, Rosie.

What a stranged out question anyway?

Not sure why you're asking but I know someone with two in Sheffield. Although I think they take a bit of getting used to - apart from when sleeping they never seem to keep still - they actually seem quite sweet.

I know for a fact my little lad would like to meet some ferrets, as would I (and maybe we could convince my OH)

They have a couple of caged ferrets up at the rare breeds place at graves park, but they are not very accessible (I suspect they aren't handled much either).

Know of any other places that have accessible, friendly ferrets (I'm hoping to win my family over to keeping them)?
