Hello to all, I'm new to the forum and need some help...

I'm looking to buy a house off Station Road, Nr. the Brunswick primary school in Woodhouse. Been to the house a few times now and have caught the occasional smell of sewerage, presumably from the Woodhouse Mill sewerage works off Retford Road. :gag:

Can anyone advise me, is the smell frequently noticable from Brunswick school?
Does the smell depend on the wind direction? Or does temp. or rain affect the smell, don't think we've been past on a hot day!?

I've found a posting on the Yorkshire Water web site saying that from Feb - April '06 work will be carried out on the Woodhouse Mill site to reduce the smell coming from one of the tanks on site.

Can anyone tell me if the work has finished and has it made any difference?

Thanks for any advice

We live in Swallownest, can't smell it there but it stinks everytime we drive past it.

Don't know specifically where you're looking at, but I personally wouldn't move to Woodhouse.

Stuff,
why, what have you heard/experienced that has put you off Woodhouse, since you would't move there?

I live in Woodhouse Mill, just down the road (3/4 mile or so) from Brunswick school and nearer the sewerage works. I've just asked my mother (I was away for most of the year) and she says the improvements to the sewerage works have worked very well and it's rare that we ever smell anything these days. If you get right on top of the works you can but it rarely wafts. As to not moving to Woodhouse at all, I see no reason why it's any worse than anywhere else in Sheffield for the price backet, I've lived here, on and off for 30 years. Good amenities, good schools etc.

Woodhouse is a berluddy big place. Woodhouse Mill is miles away from parts of it. Notice how it isn't people who live here who have the most to say about it? :suspect:

There are several threads already about facilities etc in Woodhouse, so have a go at using the 'search' facility

I jus personally don't like the look of the place!

When you drive down the main road from Swallownest to Handsworth (B6200, I think) you can smell the sewerage works and it absolutely stinks!

It may be a lovely place, and to be honest I've never lived or worked there, but when we were looking for a house at the beginning of this year, it was one of the places I wanted to avoid.

Heard bad things about the Badger estate, which looks like a tip.

Again, to be honest, don't know enough about it, and not been through it that many times. Jus not for me.

so you are basing your opinion on the fact that you drive right past the thing as close as you can get. Not surprised you can smell it

And of course the Badger Estate is the only place in Woodhouse with houses in it :suspect:

We were on a toss-up between two properties when we bought. We settled on the one in Woodhouse because we like the facilities here, and the lack of new estates.

The other big advantage, it would seem, is that living in Woodhouse proper means we never have any need to be anywhere near the sewage farm

Yes but its where all the Woodhouse folks excrement ends up, bombs away down the road to Woodhouse Mill.

I lived on Goathland area of the Badger Estate, never noticed the smell there. But sometimes went to the Jet petrol station and you could smell there but not at home. To be honest I can only recall noticing the smell a couple of times during 4 years of living there.

My sons go to Brunswick, never smelt it up there.

Nothing worse on the Badger that you won't find on any other estate in Sheffield, I enjoyed my time there.
