Hi
can anyone recommend a good allotment site in Sheffield?
I've been looking for a few weeks but the sites are so difficult to find even with a list of them from the council, many are just listed under an area name with no specific location.
I've also heard that some of them suffer quite alot of vandalism or have been badly maintained.
Has anyone got any useful advice?
Cheers

Welcome to the forum.
Nomme
The site at woodseats is pretty good. (Behind the crematorium !!).
The main site has large padlocked main gates so it's pretty secure and it's surrounded by houses. There is usually a waiting list (I had to wait months to get one there).

There are some good ones next to Crosspool Cemitary and also quite a few next to Hag Hill also in Crosspool.
As for vandalism, nothing a bit of barbed wire and a few snares can't solve :P

Vandalism is/was a problem at Rivelin Valley. Finally gave up after going in to find a man with a crowbar 'digging for worms' in my courgettes. I won't bore you with the details of every incident but it was an adventure to see what had happened since I last went to the site.
I really do wish you the best of luck with your allotment.
P.S. Don't put snares in, if someone gets hurt it's your fault (yes even if they're trespassing)

Well it is very tempting but I won't be setting any mantraps, they're way too messy ;o)
My boyfriend had a problem with kids getting into his garden so he daubed the wall they were climbing over with copper slip (apparently some kind of very smelly, oilly substance) which worked a treat.
