Any advice on how to get to sleep?

Last night was the last straw I only got 45 minutes at 5am this morning grrrr. I think im stressed over my essays but am living in denial and taking it out on my sleeping pattern?

Any advice would be great!

Exercise regularly, eat well, relax and space your revision/essay writing into digestible chunks.

Chris.

I know it sounds obvious, but force yourself to sit down and get the essays done (or at least part done). You'll feel a LOT better for it.

exercise until you are physically knackered. It will both destress you and tire you out.

Haha very true, but im finding anything slightly more interesting than doing my uni work. Part of me thinks its summer holidays and the other half is about to have a heart attack over stress.

Ok...........right Im going to do some work!

Just taking 15 minutes before you go to bed to sit in quiet and think of all the positive things about your life/situation/future. And I mean only the positive things...

Ignore people who say drink milk or hot chocolate... they actually keep you awake longer...

Do you drink much tea or coffee?

I did that yesterday and it backfied as I ended up in immense pain because I fell down the stairs. I need to be in one piece to write and think.

Might do some yoga surely I cant hurt myself doing that? (Actually dont answer that you will just scare me)

Nope neither, though I do realise the two litres of lucozade I drank yesterday probably didnt help....

Hmmm... possibly not!! I always find reading a good, escapist book can help too (or a very boring one!)

I know it's hard when there's lots of work to do, but it's really important to finish working at least an hour before you want to go to sleep. If you think, right work until 10pm then bed, your brain is still active and you can't relax. Read a book or something (not a text book, that's worse!!), or listen to some music.

And remember to stick a university book under your pillow then you can learn by osmosis while you sleep ;)

On a slightly more serious note I got into ther same situation while writing up my PhD and found Tekken (or any similar high speed button mashing beat em up game) a wonderfull destressor!

find a book by Turner and Warnock about how they have made football in Sheffield so great, it shouldn't take long to read and is certain to put you to sleep...lol

The trick to falling asleep is so simple!

Just go to bed and try and stay awake. Guaranteed to work 99% of the time.

Try it!!

I do think having loads of work on keeps you up. As you know, my lack of sleep has been just silly recently. but after finishing my last exam yesterday, i slept like...er....a really sleepy thing?

Could have been something to do with the all day session as well though.

that's also a good way to sleep. get battered in the pub. you may not fall asleep in bed, but you will fall asleep somewhere. I woke up on the lounge floor on Saturday morning. I think i tried to go to bed but fell over on the way and decided the floor was quite comfy.

Wooh! Ive finished my degree!

I have just spent an outragous amount of money I dont have (yeahy for overdrafts!) to celebrate!

I probably will now not sleep as I am in fear the bank manager will come and hit me with a big stick
