Hi Guys, I'm moving into a house in a few weeks but have realised, having lived in all-inclusive properties for years, that I have no idea how much utilities cost!. I've heard horror stories that I should budget £100 a month??

There will be two of us living in a small 3 bedroomed terraced house. I'm most concerned about the water, which someone told me will be £40 a month? Could anyone give me a very rough idea of how muh we should budget for? Many thanks!

I've got a two bed-roomed apartment and I use roughly £55 per month on both.... Scottish Power by dd every month.... I find the summer, I'm in credit and when the cold weather comes on it evens itself out.... a major source of saving on hot water is a combi boiler.... I had one fitted when I moved in for £700 all in.

2 of us sharing 3 bedroom house here and bills are roughly:

£45 p/m council tax
£25 p/m water
£35 p/m gas
£25 p/m Electric

Ohhhh

don't forget £12.50 p/m for your telly licence!

So £100 pcm is not taking the mickey.

Council tax I'm not so bothered about we get a 25% discount as one of us a student and I've budgeted for that, as I also have for the TV licence as I'm already paying that. Thanks this is all useful info!

You can cut down on the water bill by having a meter installed. It’s usually free of charge.

Is water charged by usage or flat-rate for as much as you use? I only ask because someone told me the latter, but I assumed it would be charged the same as Gas and Electric...

At Viking Towers I have instructed my accountant to pay on my behalf.

£500 P/M Electric.
£600 P/M Gas (Includes the maids quarters)

£1000 P/M Council tax.
£550 P/M Telephone charges.

£1500 P/M Food. (Includes all servants)
Oh, and £12.50 TV Licence.

It might seem a lot to you paupers, but we have no mortgage as we live in an 14 century building payed for years ago.

2 bed terrace.2 Oldies
Gas/Elec £48
Water £20 (8Months)
Telewest £30 (tv,broadband phone)
House insurance £25
Council tax £89 (10 months)
Pensions should be linked to Council Tax,that'd slow the b****rs down.

Depends if you are metered or not. Apparantly the water rates are directly linked to the old 'rates' system before the poll tax was introduced.

Thanks folks it's given me a general idea but looks like it could also be either exceptionally high or low so I'll 'wait and see'. The water is charged flat rate (from the water company website I think £330 a year :o , I asked someone from Nottingham yesterday who said they pay £120), and as it's a rental property I don't think the landlord will allow the installation of a water meter, but it is something I've been considering and may ask about. With both of us working during the day and a few conservation tricks I think it might make it a lot cheaper.
