It's not as simple as that for me really, I dont think.

I did speak with two surgeons at the time - they both said the same thing.

I suppose, what i'm wanting to know is if there is any relevent treatment that the NHS do not offer, but that I could perhaps get if I were to go private.

The only option I was offered at the hospital was a bit rubbish, and if there is any other option available, even if it costs, I am willing to look into it.

I just dont really know where to start with it, as I dont know any private orthopaedic surgeons. I'm thinking that perhaps a sports injury specialist may be the sort of thing I need.

Any help will be appreciated.
jack.

Jack, there is a ortho surgeon in Chesterfield who is highly recommended (yep he has had the knife in me) called Mr Beauchamp (pronounced Beecham) and his private consulting rooms are near to the football ground. If you want any further information pm me and I will help if I can

There are several private hospitals in sheffield which offer alternatives to NHS treatment, however thet are not cheap. I inquired as to an MRI scan the other month and was quoted £450 for a 1 hour consultation and scan...

Where did you enquire? How did you go about it?

If you ask your GP, rather than your specialist, they will be able to point you in the right direction - I haven't got all the info to hand, but you might try This Link (http://www.bmihealthcare.co.uk/ourhospitals.cfm?orderby=facilitytown#) and look for Sheffield...

Jack if you want to go private your first port of call is your GP. You can't just book an appointment to see a consultant privately you have to get a referral letter from your GP first.

Rubbish in what way? Medically unsound, or just inconvenient to you?

Remember that in private medicine, they keep you there as long as possible, providing you with as many drugs and treatments as possible - because that is how they make their money.

In the NHS, the opposite is true - it is in their interests to get you fixed up as quickly as possible (and properly, so you don't have to keep coming back).

I get what your saying, but it's hard to explain without boring you with the details of my case!

Normally I wouldn't dream of going private - I'm a big fan of the NHS, and have a huge respect for the service.

And if i'd have to have paid for all the times they'd patched me up after i've done something stupid, i'd be i a lot of debt right now.

Just this once, I feel that there may be a treatment on offer that is not available on the NHS for whatever reason - maybe time, cost etc, I dunno.
