As my daughter was coming home last night she saw lots of police and a paramedic in the police gardens about 7:30 - 8:00 pm A man was laid in the recovery position on the grass at the back of the fountains. When they asked what was going on they were informed that someone had been stabbed.

Does anyone know what happened and if the man involved is ok?

I didn't see very much when i was walking past but i did see a lot of police and they had a guy surrounded. There was a pop n then guy hit the deck, followed by about 4 or 5 policemen on top of him. I heard someone mention he was tazered.

I guessing he was the perpetrator. I did see an ambulance leaving just as i was walking past the town hall and almost at the peace gardens.

There were a lot of people around watching but don't know other than that

prolly a pisshead, its getting to that time of year, the silly season i believe its called
all the pissheads start fighting and stuff :P

Apparently a guy was taking lots of pills and holding a knife to himself in the middle of the Peace Gardens. The police tried to persuade him to drop the weapon, but when that failed they used a taser to stun him so they could disarm and restrain him. It's the first time they've used a taser in Sheffield, it seems.

Incidentally, local media put in a request to the police on Sunday afternoon for information about what had happened. They refused to say anything until this afternoon, three days later. In the past, the police were very open with journalists in South Yorkshire. This is no longer the case. But that's off topic.
