The DVD-RW drive on my Acer laptop has ceased to function. It's stopped finding the discs I put in it and makes an intermittant noise like it's trying to access the disc but fails and starts again. This is annoying to say the least. I've tried it with discs I've burned and original DVDs with films on and software, and no joy. The laptop is out of warranty (of course) so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for computer technicians to fix it. Most software and OS problems I can sort out myself but actual hardware electronics - not my thing.

I know there are a couple of computer shops in Darnall (I'm in Wincobank) but I don't know who to trust with my laptop so if anyone has any good experiences of work well done and a reasonable price please let me know and I'll psych myself up for the seperation anxiety when I have to hand the thing over to be fixed. Ta.

try re-seating it in its caddy. It could just be a poor connection.

Worked fine after a good clean.
