Alright time for a new project, Im wanting to set up a webcam and broadcast it over the web, so i can check the cam from another computer via the web.
Anyone know how i might go about doing this? free if possible.
thanks.
(A live show for anyone who helps :D :D :D )
Buy a web cam, set it up, then..
There are a few possibilities, -- There are lots of 'free' "Cam Chat" sites out there, you could set it on one of thoes, and then view it from anywhere..
You could also use the 'FTP' method, this requires you to have some web space, with FTP access, and there's programs you can get which will upload an image every second from your web cam.
There's also Java applets you can use, again, you may need your own web space for this...
I'd just run through google for some methods, and applications.

I was trying to avoid the "ftp" method. Im mainly wanting something that anyone can access, preferably through some sort of http site.
can anyone recomend a decent host? that will support a webcam. preferably free?

did you not read my post?
webcam32 uses ftp to upload the pics BUT i have an html front end to view them, give somebody the link and they can see
in fact on irc its now set as a trigger with the bot so somebody types melcam and my url appears as if by magic :)
they double click the link and BANG they get a whole load of me, errrrrm

The best way to run a live webcam is to get hold of an IPcam. You can sometimes get one from e-bay for as little as £30.
This way you can have it patched through your router and you don't need a PC switched on all the time. They are tiny and have a built in web server which enables you to set up an ftp to any webspace local or at your isp. Or you can just allow anyone to log onto the live pictures if you give them the guest password.
You could try www.camstreams.com

Get a camera with an inbuilt webserver. By far the easiest way. This way you can enter the ip address into any web browser in any location and IE will display the current view. Either on a contineous stream or regular updated images.
I recommend this which you can CAT 5 (ethernet) straight into any broadband router. Wireless (54g) version also available.
