What's a good, reasonably priced red wine?
I can never remember the one's I've already tried!

I can never remember the one's I've already tried! mikey 21-05-2004, 19:59 I usually look out for the offers at the big supermarkets, but generally I like Shiraz. Penfolds Rawsons Retreat - Shiraz Cabernet, its about £8 but its good, sometimes get it on offer cheaper. Wolf Blass is good too other than that stick with big name brands for good cheapish wine, like Hardys Blossom Hill etc etc Sam Miguel 21-05-2004, 20:24 Faustino and Torres - Two Spanish producers - their 'reservas' are great, but I usually drink them in Spain where they are about a third of the price. Spanish Rioja tinto ( a good reserva again) is probably the world's best wine. I hate German wine; it's one step up from Country Manor. I don't care much for Italian wine, either. Pinot Noir is red wine for people who don't like red wine. Interesting thread. Andy78 21-05-2004, 23:09 Valpolicella usually £4.50 - £5 in offies, but £2.98 in tesco. i drink a lot of the stuff. very mellow and easy to drink. Fitou is also another favorite of mine. about £4 - £5. similar easy to drink red. i stayed in the village where it's made in france. costs £1 a litre there. we used to buy 5 litres of the stuff a day. spook 21-05-2004, 23:17 Blossom Hill White Zinfandel Cyclone 22-05-2004, 01:03 for Red i'm with Sam, faustino I (16.99 ish) or Faustino VI (9.99). Best reds I've ever drunk. Mo 22-05-2004, 08:17 Chablis every time. mr craig 22-05-2004, 08:24 Wolf Blass shiraz, about £8ish,if you can find it anywhere. Sam Miguel 22-05-2004, 08:31 Originally posted by spook Blossom Hill White Zinfandel Gallo's White Zinfandel is even better. It's a great way to discover new wines, make notes of ones you do like, and just generally learn more about them. Oh, yes. Phanerothyme 22-05-2004, 10:10 I like Chiantis. When buying chianti, look for a small, intricate paper seal on the bottle neck. This is effectively appelation controllee for italian wine, i.e. the better stuff. Rioja is great with food, good quaffing wine. For a heavy, alcoholic, heady wine try something like a Rousillon Price in the supermarket is often a good indicator too, stuff around the £4-6 region is usually ok. Tony 22-05-2004, 10:22 Chianti in a basket, Blue Nun, Black Tower and Lambrusco. Why you ask? Well because the above tripe ancouraged supermarkets to start importing lots of really good wines at good prices. |
