Cos it's spam, that's why, and it's from an arsehole as well. If I wanted to join his stupid forum, I would - and I'd tell him that if he'd have the guts to allow replies to his spam.

I have had 2 over the last couple of weeks, from different accounts.

I think the Sheffield forum is decent so won't be poached by another forum like that.

I got one too, i'm not interested though, i like this forum better :) i've had a look at the other one before and it was basically all about this forum anyway :confused: and there was a rather nasty thread about a sheffield forum member that i thought was unnecessary. Anyways i spend enough time on here without joining another!! but what i dont get is the fact that he can send pm's when hes got no post count...i thought you needed to have posted 5 times to be able to send pm's?

Hi all,

First of all, we're receiving occasional spam from Kirky under various IDs. For now we're simply banning the accounts as they become apparent and then we zap PMs sent from the account. We may take further action in future, but that's for us to decide on.

Normally we get these IDs within a short period of time and remove them and the spam. Occasionally the spam stays around for a while, until we clean up.

Sorry for the inconvenience this time - we'll deal with this in the same way that we've been dealing with it for the last few weeks; delete the account, delete the sent spam, and watch for the next one.

The best thing to do to help us is to forward any spam PM you get to a Mod, and we'll do the honours!

As for the PM restriction - it got 'lost' recently and we're going to re-implement it.

Why not just put the URL into the censor filter, then all his efforts are pointless anyway.

We had someone doing this on another forum that I look after, spammed everyone. So annoying as it wastes peoples time.

On my forum we had a couple of repeat abusers recently that we'd banned and they thought it was funny to keep recreating accounts.

We trace their IPs and report them to their ISP, if you back this up with server logs they tend to either contact their parents or disconnect their internet connection under their abuse policy.

I also recently traced abuse back to a school in Manchester and after emailing the head teacher there I got an apology and assured that the pupil in question was to be severely dealt with.

People don't realise that you can be traced through the internet very easily, even when using a proxy or similar methods to hide your presence.

If they continue to be abusive I recommend you have a word with their ISP, that should stop them.

Scottf, No i haven't reported it. I have better things to do with my spare time than PM somebody i dont even no and say Are you on Crack and slag sheffield wednesday off. Whats the point? :)

You might like to ask people on the unmoderated board why they saw fit to threaten the some of the Mods on here with physical violence and why they ran a series of threads abusing SF users on the grounds of race, illness and disability.

Funnily enough I've never had a good response to these questions and I'm not holding my breath for one now.

I also find it quite intriguing that from being unmoderated, they're now 'lightly moderated', accordng to some recent spam. Obviously we must be doing something right.

And Speeed - given what's been posted on the other board about some users of SF you'll forgive me if I don't take your complaint too seriously?

People who abuse folks on here tend to get banned. If you have issues, report them - that's how this Forum works. We may not always get it right, but the rules are in place and people will get slapped if they step out of line.

But if users on the other Forum publically suggest that it might be fun to 'crack a few heads' of SF Mods, that's rather disturbing, don't you agree? And rather more important than simple words?

I agree and personally I wouldn't bother posting something like that and I understand that you don't want to promote the other board, to be fair you don't even need a reason not to its in the forum rules, and this is why I don't bother.

There are quite a few users on here who use the other Forum - as long as they stick to the SF rules whilst on SF, then there's no difference in how they'll get treated.

However, if people try and post in the same way as they post on the other Forum on SF, then we'll apply the SF rules.

That's the way I apply the rules of SF, and the way I expect the other Moderators to apply the same rules. If you have a problem with a Moderating decision, then use the Contact Us facility to raise the problem.

There are a small number of people who've 'trolled' SF, caused problems here and then gone back to te other forum to brag about it. If we hear about that sort of thing, we're likely to be less patient with them because we aren't running SF to provide 'entertainment' for other Forums.

This forum is fantastic, no qualms about that and has given me a lot of useful information however I can be more free at the darkside to express what I want to say which I find a godsend.

Can I also suggest to people as well the comment that was brought up before that 'everyone who resides on the other forum is an idiot' is well and truly out of order because no we are all not quite frankly.

I totally agree - there are several posters on SF who contribute a great deal here who also post on the unmoderated board. I've often said to people that such variety in online resources is good for Sheffield. My only problem is when the attitudes and behaviours that are acceptable on that board are bought here by a minority of those users, or when people use the resources of the other board to simply abuse and threaten SF users, or spam this Forum.

There's space for both types of Forum - but whilst some users of the unmoderated board are as hostile to SF as they are it's inevitable that there will be strong feelings.

I signed up to the other forum, one or two things there are a refreshing change but for the most part it's very hard to find any thread that isn't at least 75% people abusing each other/SF/SF users/SF mods.

Well said Angelus. I am also a member on the other place and enjoy both forums, although i do post mainly on the SF. The other forum is a light-hearted and you are free to be a little more honest as you have found with the Special One :hihi:

Some posters do get criticised on the other place, but not everyone subscribes to it.

Where is this "other forum" :confused: that no one knows about yet a lot of people have knowledge of it.:|

I quite agree - I belong to a few other Forums as well. I think you'll find that my only concern is how people behave when they're on this one.

What I can't understand, though, is why so much time and energy is spent by some individuals on the unmoderated forum in slagging this place off if it's so bad. Why not just ignore us and get on with posting the free-thinking threads that are so desired? :)

Seriously - we all need to just get on with our respective on-line lives - folks using SF do so with the undertanding that they are subject to the Rules and T&Cs of this site. People using the unmoderated site know that they may find some stuff there that they might find offensive and hurtful. People using both just need to remember where they are to avoid the embarrasing faux-pas of not swearing enough on the unmoderated board and swearing too much here. :)

And finally, some people over there just need to stop spamming SF and stop threatening SF Mods with violence, and just focus on using the Forum that they so obviously prefer to SF.

That way, we're all happy. :)
