Hi i have three dogs, a labxcollie, she's 10 now and called Molly or 'Lumper', she has become quite rounded recently. A papillon called Pip, he's 6 and is otherwise known as captain mainwaring, pompous, and a 2 year-old huge lurcher called Rosie. The man said she was a greyhoundxcolliexwhippet, that was a joke, i saw the irish wolfhound in his backgarden and part of it is in our Rose. I also have two cats, a grumpy old sod called 'sniper', he lies in wait in high places and shoots a sharp paw out as unsuspecting human heads go past. The other is called 'millie', she was a first communion bribe for my youngest daughter, i was despErate as she was insisting on wearing her dungarees for the first communion mass, if you're not catholic you won't get that bit. This cat is now a 'b****r' just like my daughter.

Hey there!

So pleased that all the silly and serious pet things have a place to be now- and as forum mad cat lady (you can interpret that to be 'likes cats and is mad' or 'is mad about cats' at your will) I'll probably be resident here.

For those who don't know, my house is a small outpost of the Sheffield Cats Shelter (well, not really but I do adopt lots from them!)- I have 4 feline furries of my own and I also cluck about, socialise and groom the 50 or so we have at the Shelter at any time.

Well, you know what happened with the forum's highest rate poster???

They made him a mod and he disappeared, didn't he Kristian?

And just to stay on topic :hihi:
I am the overwrought owner of one (yes, just one, not a pack, though it often seems like it) beagle

I'm the proud (or stupid) owner of a dalmatian pup who is coming up to 11 months and two 8 year old cats.

Smudge - my little short haired black cat, scared of her own shadow but fussy as anything. Likes to play with little animals and is desperately disappointed when she kills them.

Smitch - my little fluffy friend, has never been fussy like her sister but since I moved out of the attic onto a first floor bedroom she has joined me and become not only affectionate but playful!

Takara - the latest addition to our furry family. She was a horror as a pup but has calmed down considerably recently and has just done a fundraising event at my college! She was ever so well behaved and let all the students fuss her before performing tricks for them to raise money for Bluebell Wood. She came 4th in her first Championship Show aged 6 months and when I've finished my exams we aim to get into competing more regularly.
She's a little star and my best friend.

Brude's not popular in your house is he? :(
And he's not doing very well at ingratiating himself with you either :suspect:
I wonder if it's because he was making eyes at Storm and he knows you're 'her mum', and have the say-so on who she 'plays' with

Have you met Taylor the Grott from round the back of your shop yet?

if anyone sees any stray dogs knocking about Woodhouse, will u plse tell em our house is now closed to strays, llf. We have had at least 5 stray dogs over the last few months, we feed em, make sure they are ok, and then take em to the cop shop!.(one of em was a black long haired Belgian Shepherd, looked like a Wolf,....we now have one of his puppies). I am sure there is a rumour going around the dogs at Woodhouse that they can pop in our house for a free meal and a cuddle.....gawd!. Trouble is, we have already 6 dogs and 3 have to go........so all you intelligent spy dogs with access to ur owners comp.....WE ARE NOW CLOSED!!!!!!!.....its been making me feel ruff!, and sending me barking!!!!!..lol

Ok, I think I now qualify to say hello on this group :D

I have kit-kat (the black and white lodger) who shows his face once or twice a week and then leaves me. Obviously he loves someone more than me.

two fish.. pepsi and speedy which ds was given for christmas by a grandparent (such a thoughtful gift not to consult me on first)

Little fox was 8 yesterday and his birthday saw the arrival of Scruffy and his hamster hotel. A baby russian dwarf hamster who looks like this (http://www.vanelk.nl/edwin/pets/rodents/malj.jpg) I am try to socialise him at the moment and upon resting my hand in his cage with a tasty treat he nibbled the treat then nibbled my finger.

So an advice on ensuring this creature is friendly would be welcome.

Oh BTW hello everyone

Hi, I/we are owned by a daft doberman bitch called Ailsa (aka Nelliebear), an elderly cockatiel named Pooh (his best friend Piglet passed on a couple of years ago) and 5 cats- a brown spotted Bengal named Alfie, A brown Maine Coon called Amber, a silver Norwegian Forest Cat (Ashia) a Havana Oriental Aero (because she's chocolate brown) and my late mum's old black and white (fresian) moggy Minty.

Weve always owned moggies before and fostered strays for the CPL ,but a couple of years back when all the old uns died, we decided to indulge and get a couple of pedigree cats for the first time...trouble was, we couldn t make up our minds which of the 4 preferred breeds to go for and ended up with one of each!

They all get on great with our loopy dobe (apparently all dobes are loopy) and life is never dull with our barmy bengal climbing the venetian blinds, chewing anything that moves or stands still and trying to lead the Great Escape every time a window is ever so slightly ajar.., a batty Havana who thinks she is a dog (her breeder also bred German Shepherd Dogs) and nicks elastic bands out of cupboards she isnt supposed to be able to open... a clumsy but loveable NFC who cant help breaking ornaments and rearranging vases of flowers (we renamed her the Norwgian FLORIST Cat) and our gentle giant Maine Coon who is still capable of moments of madness. Even our old Moggie is a bit of a schizoid.

By comparison, Ailsa is quite sedate. OK, I lie, she is a total pillock and wears us out at times - she and her best buddie Alfie love to wind us (and each other ) up and Alf is a good match for this big, clumsy powerful mutt- he is a strong willed, musclebound beastie himself!

We love her (and her feline friends) loads and could not imagine life without them. Ailsa and her best friend Alfie also have a claim to fame- they were painted by a pet artist looking for models and are featured on her website at thepainteddog.co.uk (the painting is called buddies)
We are biased, but we think they look FAB together.

I have a spanniel who thinks he is a human when I open a packet of biscuits or crisps and he thinks he is a rabbit when I get the rabbit food out and when I feed the cockatiel he begs for seed. Almost every day I have to search the garden for my slippers. He loves especially socks if they are smelly but he will also pinch them from the clothes basket as I peg the washing out.

My beloved spaniel Murphy is ill. The Vet is still trying to find out the cause of his illness and has kept him in overnight. I am so worried for him, He is six years old and a brilliant pet and has learned many tricks. As my sitting room is upstairs i cannot hear the timer on my oven but Murphy bounds upstairs and barks at me to let me know my dinner is ready. I have to phone the Vet tomorrow to see how he is but I am dreading the phone call.

Twirly my thoughts are with you........

Just realised that in my flap over recent g-pig situation I hadn't even introduced myself and my mob!!! :hihi:

We are currently in charge of (or are they in charge of us!!??;) ) Three dogs all rescues.. Kipper a black lab cross who as a puppy was a kitchen eater! Bracken a greyhound who is the love of my four year olds life!! An old decrepid collie cross who is the most unattractive (half deaf half blind half her hair missing!!! need i go on) but best most loving dog that was on death row until Thornberry saved her and we took her home.

Cats!!!! One highly strung ancient persian called Suki... brother and sister Leo and Midge who are now 4... Matt a persian cross who came to us completely shaven due to previous neglect who is approx 6.... Louis age 2 daft as a brush and loves the local fish and chip shop (:o naughty boy!!) and most recent addition Billy who is 11 weeks!!!

OK deep breath everyone we are on the finishing straight!!!! :hihi:

G-pigs Oliver and Ben who belong to my daughters.... Rabbits Chaz age 6 Jaspee age 1 1/2 Parsnip and Dylan who are both brothers and are 3 months. Lastly you will be pleased to hear two rats Hari and Bo (named by hubby and yes he does like sweets!!!)

Think thats everyone!!! All are rescues with the exception of the kids. Yes I did rescue the hubby... one look of those puppy dog eyes was enough for me!!!!!! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: ok enough from me!!

Hi to all other pet lovers out there on SF!!

I am ashamed to say it was my fault i forgot to get his booster shots done and the vet finally told me the day before he died that it looked like Distemper. It usualy occours in younger dogs. There is a chance the imune system could kick in to get rid but Murphy's didn't. He didn't go out of the garden except twice this year round to my daughters house to see her dog Kit Kat. We didnt meet any dogs on the way. Vet says we could carry germ on our feet. He was a kind and funny dog , he could do a few trick, fetch my slippers, jump through my arms, walk backwards, and lots of other funny things. By the way it takes about five days before a disgusting death.we went to see him and he was put to sleep as I held him in my arms . I can never forgivr myself.

Strix
09-08-2006, 23:26
Oh no!! So all this talk about boosters being unnecessary beyond the first lot as a pup is twoddle?

Can you start us a warning thread about this Twirly?
Or would you like us to do it for you?

I think other forumers/dog owners should know about this - especially as the anti-booster brigade are getting noisier :(

I feel SO much for you, having held Brude whilst he was sedated for the operation on is spine, and knowing there was a slim chance that we would never see him breathe again - but we had no choice, he wouldn't have survived the next 2 days. I spent weeks trying to pinpoint what could have injured him in the first place, and beating myself up about it.

If you kept him safe at home, you have protected him as well as you could, and sometimes it's best to believe that things happen as they do for a reason. We may not know the reason at the time, but every event in life impacts on so many other things.

You've had six wonderful years to share with a very special friend, and have six years of happy memories to share. Try to remember the best bits, and hold him in your heart forever. You know he's there ;)

Hey there!

So pleased that all the silly and serious pet things have a place to be now- and as forum mad cat lady (you can interpret that to be 'likes cats and is mad' or 'is mad about cats' at your will) I'll probably be resident here.

For those who don't know, my house is a small outpost of the Sheffield Cats Shelter (well, not really but I do adopt lots from them!)- I have 4 feline furries of my own and I also cluck about, socialise and groom the 50 or so we have at the Shelter at any time.:) Hi Medusa I have had kittens and cats before sadly they all are now in cat heavan. It's been awhile now but we have now got two kittens ( growing into young adults) our black one we got from the pet shop a bit scared at times but now he is fine and lovley ( when the mood takes him or when he wants something) our other kitten we got from a friend of mine, he's a male tortie, anyway to cut a long story short our tortie started to bleed from his backside while doing a movement we took them both to see the vet and both kittens had a course of antibiotics and worming cream. (I have never had this problem before with any of our other cats,) both kittens are fine now but one veternary man told us to feed our kittens on kitten milk and kitten food ( which we did ) when we took our kittens up to the vets because of the problem with the bleeding the vetenary man ( different one ) told us to keep the kittens on water and ween them off kitten food all together ( they are about 4 months old now)
So just a bit of advise if you can help is dry food better or a mixture of both.

devonmiles
06-09-2006, 14:20
a bit of advise for you. if a cat is bleeding during movement it can be down to the diet, a breeder of bengals told me that you should feed cats from kittens once a week with raw meat like mince or rabbit just off cuts from the butcher, this helps the bowl movements and improves health allround. my bengal had the same kind of thing when she was a kitten and when we started to feed her raw meat every week it all cleared up and never had a problem since.

I am now the proud owner of a golden Cocker, his name is now Ozzie. He is a rescue dog. although he is 2 years old he is verry much a pup. When I let him off the lead on the field he races round like a greyhound. BUT. He likes to roll in obnoctious smelly things. I had to wash him down when we got to my daughters today but he still smelled so he had a bath when we got home.He learns very quickly, he already goes and sits on the stairs when i am going out through the front door. I am learning how different it is to deal with a good sighted dog. My last dog Murphy was born with cataracts and didnt see flying birds etc. Ozzie could follow them for miles thank god he comes back when I whistle. Every evening he plays with Buddy the rabbit and he gives him a good wash. I will post some pictures when I have Masted the photobucket
